Demolition Update

There really is nothing left of the old building now! We are down to the foundations. This week the diggers have been breaking up the concrete slab and removing the ducting. From Tuesday the crusher will be onsite as they begin to recycle and remove the rubble from site.

It certainly has change the view from the EYFS play area - will they notice when they return in September?

Demolition of Old Building

We are delighted that the demolition work has started - and is now close to completion - on the old building. This is the next stage of the expansion of the school.

In September 2016 we will see the first 3FE intake for Reception - 90 pupils. This will then gradually extend throughout the school, meaning that we need additional classrooms and hall space.

The Borough have provided some draft plans that indicate a new Nursery - as this will also be expanding - and six new class spaces. There is also provision for a new hall.

It is hoped that the demolition process will be completed by the end of August and that the construction will start by Christmas. On that timetable part of the building will be ready for September 2017, which is the point at which we run out of space!

However it is sad to say goodbye to the old building. It has been in place since 1953 and seen countless children through their Primary education. The vast majority of the structure came from recycled hangars taken from the Hornchurch aerodrome... so it really was a piece of history. What was clear was that the building had served its time and wasn't suitable for refurbishment. The new facilities planned will ensure that our Harold Hill pupils have the very best facilities available!

KS1 Reflectiveness Awards 2016

At Broadford we help the children to understand that the life long skill of Reflectiveness is about being ready, willing and able to become more strategic about learning - taking a longer-term view by planning, taking stock and drawing out your experiences as a learner to get the best out of yourself.

Your Reflectiveness is made up of..

Planning
Thinking about where you are going, the action you are going to take, the time and resources you will need and the obstacles you may encounter.

Revising
Being flexible, changing your plans in the light of different circumstances, monitoring and reviewing how things are going and seeing new opportunities.

Distilling
Looking at what is being learned - pulling out the essential features - carrying them forward to aid further learning; being your own learning coach.

Meta-learning
Knowing yourself as a learner - how you learn best;
how to talk about the learning process.

Well done to our KS1 pupils who have demonstrated these elements consistently across the whole year.

Police Cadets

We are delighted to announce that the Volunteer Police Cadet programme will be running again in September. Pupils in Year 6 will be issued with leaflets when they return next term.

If your child is unsure, they can enjoy a taster session which will help them to understand what opportunities there are.

The contact details are on the leaflet below.

KS1 Resourcefulness Awards 2016

At Broadford we help the children to understand that the life long skill of Resourcefulness is made up of many elements. It involves being ready, willing and able to learn in different ways - using both internal and external resources effectively, calling on different ways of learning as appropriate.

Questioning.
Asking questions of yourself and others. Being curious and playful with ideas - delving beneath the surface of things.

Making links
Seeing connections between disparate events and experiences - building patterns - weaving a web of understanding.

Imagining
Using your imagination and intuition to put yourself through new experiences or to explore possibilities. Wondering 'what if...?'

Reasoning
Calling up your logical and rational skills to work things out methodically and rigorously; constructing good arguements and spotting the flaws in others.

Capitalising
Drawing on the full range of resources from the wider world - other people, books, the Internet, past experience, future opportunities....

Well done to the following pupils who have demonstrated these skills consistently across the whole year: Violet, Leah, Tilly & Alex.
