Could you bring a SMILE to a child's face this Christmas?

S.M.I.L.E London & Essex annual Christmas appeal.

Many children will not receive anything from Father Christmas this year as they are living below the breadline. Therefore S.M.I.L.E are providing shoe boxes full of treats and delivering them to families who need the most support. Every year the numbers of families in need grow, and as a result of this they are always in need of donations from the community to fulfill this Christmas miracle.

Creating your Christmas box ...

1 - Choose an age and gender
2 - Find a suitable shoebox
3 - Wrap with Christmas paper (please wrap lid separately so that the box can be opened easily
4 - Shop for presents to fill your box
5 - Bring your box into school no later than Friday 20th November

All gifts must be new in sealed packages to comply with Covid-19 policies.

Please select an age range for your box from the groups below

  • Babies
  • 3-6 years old
  • 7-12 years old
  • 13-16 years old
  • Adults (male and female)
Suggested items to add to your box ...

  • Dolls / cars / games / puzzles / age appropriate books
  • Pencils / pens / colouring books
  • Make up / perfume / aftershave / toiletries
  • Sweets / chocolates
  • family board games

If you are not able to donate a full box of items maybe you could donate an item that we could add to another box.

Well done to all the children who have taken part in our weekly maths challenges this half-term! It has been brilliant to see all of your marvellous mathematical minds working so hard.

Congratulations to our winners this week: Tele, Aksanan, Anish and Faizah!

We hope you have a fabulous half-term and enjoy a well-deserved break, so that you are recharged and ready for the first maths challenge of Autumn 2.

Newsletters - Friday 23rd October, 2020

Headteacher: Mrs L Nicholls

Dear Parents and Carers,

I can hardly believe that we have come to the end of the first half term already. The past 7 weeks have been unusual as we are living in challenging and difficult times. However, as always the pupils have taken these challenges in their stride and we are so proud of how they have settled back into school life and continued with their learning. We are already looking forward to them returning after the half term break so we can continue with our ‘new normal’. I wish you and your families an enjoyable and restful half term together.

Parents’ Evening
Thank you to all of the parents who engaged in telephone calls with teachers. This is obviously not our usual way of communicating with you but we do appreciate your patience and support during this time. We hope that you found the pupil passports informative and enjoyed the opportunity to discuss this with your child’s teachers.

Back to School
We return to school for the second half of the autumn term on Monday 2nd November with breakfast club starting at 7.45 am for pupils who have booked. The staggered start and end of the school day will continue due to Covid-19 measures in place. The newly appointed executive headteacher for The Learning Federation starts with us after half term. I am sure that you will get to meet Mr Denchfield very soon. After school clubs will commence on Monday 9th November.

Year 6 Parents - 31st October 2019

The deadline for applying for secondary school places is fast approaching. Please ensure that you have registered for an online account and applied for a secondary place before 31st October. However the eAdmissions helpdesk will not be available after 5pm on Friday 30 October so it is recommended that you complete your application by no later than Midday on the 30th October. This will ensure that if you do experience any unforeseen problems, there is ample time for these to be rectified before the closing date.

Children In Need
Broadford will be hosting a very special day to raise money for Children In Need this year on Friday 13th November.
This will include:
  • Non-uniform day with a theme.
  • Joe Wicks’ Ultimate Feel Good Friday.
  • Design a new Pudsey competition to take place within classes.
  • Fun Pudsey themed activities to take part in throughout the day in class.
Non-uniform day with a theme - The theme is polka dots and yellow! The children can wear any spotty clothing they own or if you are struggling to find clothing to match the theme a simple idea would be to draw polka dots on a plain t-shirt. If you would like to add Pudsey accessories to your outfit feel free! We ask that you contribute £1 per family to this great cause if your child is in non-uniform and any further donations are welcome.
This year you can also take part in Act Your Age at home. You can take the age of your child and turn it into a fundraiser. For example, if you are six years old you can read six books in total over six days! You can send any pictures of your child taking part in Act Your Age for us to share.
I am sure that we will all have a fun day raising money for Children In Need.

New Reading Rewards - 105 Books to Read Before You Leave Broadford

Central habits to success as a lifelong learner are; an ability to organise yourself, resilience to stick at a task you struggle with, manage time effectively and most importantly - to learn through reading. As a school we have a responsibility to make reading 'normal' for our pupils. This is why we invest so much in our library and reading activities. We want staff and pupils to talk about books and model to each other the importance of reading in our lives.

We want our pupils to learn good habits of reading and establish reading as a supremely glorious human act. That is why we have come up with 105 books to read before you leave Broadford. There are 15 books per year group. Each year pupils can earn their Bronze, Silver and Gold reading awards and earn rewards on their reading journey. By the time they leave us in year 6 they would have made their way through a great list of books, old and new. These titles are sure to inspire more reading and a love of books for years to come.

This system is replacing the previous reading reward scheme but is in addition to the regular reading books that are sent home weekly. This is about developing our children's love of reading and it may be that you sit and read these books with or to your child. We have these books in school for the children to borrow or you may have some of these books at home to enjoy together. You could also visit your local library and borrow titles from the list.

We want to encourage our pupils to read quality texts and really enjoy and appreciate them rather than trying to read as many books as possible. It may be that your child loves these books so much that they want to read them over and over again. We believe these 105 quality texts will enrich the pupils reading journeys.

This will start on Monday 2nd November. There will be a separate blog post for each year group. Enjoy reading these wonderful books with your children!
