Back to School - Thursday 26th November, 2020

We are looking forward to welcoming all pupils back to school tomorrow. Thank you for your support during this time. We very much appreciate it.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind all parents about the staggered start and end to the school day. The purpose of this is to limit the number of parents on site or at the gates at any time. Please arrive at your allocated time and then move away from the school doors and gates to make room for other parents. We strongly advise parents to wear face coverings during drop off and collection times inline with Local Authority guidelines. I would like to reiterate that we have had only two positive cases in school, I am sure many of you have seen on the news that Havering is a high risk area. The council are asking us to all 'do our bit'.

We do have nearly 600 pupils to dismiss at the end of each day and we want to make sure that happens safely. There is a 10 minute time slot for you to collect your children in, this should hopefully provide us with the opportunity to give each other space and time. Please be kind to one another during these challenging days and remember to socially distance yourselves from others.

Nursery Doors
Open at 8.30 am and 9.00 am.
Parents are aware of the various end times for sessions

Reception
Doors open at 8.30 am for pupils who have siblings in the school and close at 9.05 am
3.00 pm for parents who have siblings to collect and close at 3.15 pm

Years 4&6
8.30 am - 2.50 pm

Years 1&2
8.40 am - 3.00 pm

Years 3&5
8.50 am - 3.10 pm

Breakfast club doors will open at 7.45 am for pupils who have booked in for Thursday.

We are on week 1 of the Havering catering services menu. School meals will be provided as normal and paid for via the sQuid system.

We will see you tomorrow on the gate.
Kind regards,

Mrs L Nicholls

Children in Need 2020

We had a wonderful day last week for Children in Need. Thank you all for your very generous donations, we raised over £300 which is marvellous. Aspen, Rowan and Redwood were the class winners of our dress Pudsey bear competition. Some of our pupils took fundraising into their own hands by participating in a sponsored cycle/scoot around Raphael Park and raised £175! Please read the blog post here. We are so proud of all of your efforts and for demonstrating job number 3 which is to be kind.

Home Learning - Tuesday 24th November, 2020

It is only a few weeks away and we will be finding out who our spelling super stars are and who has been receiving full marks every week in their spelling tests.

We are looking forward to seeing more of your home learning today. Keep sending us your work, photographs and videos. We can't wait to receive them.

Kind regards,

Full School Closure

Dear Parents,

As you are aware we have unfortunately this week had to close the year 3 bubble due to a single confirmed case.

Unfortunately, we now have to advise parents/carers that the school will be closed for ALL pupils from Monday 16th November - Wednesday 25th November with a return to school on Thursday 26th November. The reason for this decision is because we have been made aware late this afternoon that a member of staff has tested positive for Covid-19. This means that now there are a number of senior staff members, who in line with government guidelines, are required to self isolate.

I would like to emphasis that the staff concerned do not have any symptoms and pupils do not need to self isolate unless they are in year 3. All year 3 pupils must continue to stay at home to self isolate until the 23rd November.

I want to assure you that the safety of you and your children is of paramount importance and in any decision that I have to make I will never put you or your child's wellbeing at risk. I will always do my very best to give you as much notice as possible should your child have to remain at home. Though I am sure you will appreciate, sometimes decisions have to be made at very short notice.

I have to say that the situation this afternoon emphasises the importance of all of us doing our part to combat this virus.

As always, I would like to remind you that should your child or any member of your household develop the following symptoms;

  • A new continuous cough
  • A high temperature
  • A loss of or change to taste/smell
You must immediately stay at home to isolate and book a test.

During the school closure please be assured that we are committed to continuing the learning journey for our pupils. Teachers will be in contact on Monday morning regarding work for your children. This will primarily be available via the google classroom, the school blog (which can be accessed via our school website) and our social media platforms.

We thank you in advance for your understanding and the continuous support you have provided for the school during these most challenging times.

Newsletter - Friday 13th November, 2020

Headteacher: Mrs L Nicholls

Dear Parents and Carers,

As I am sure that you are all more than aware, we have had a single confirmed case of Covid-19 in school this week. We all have to ‘do our bit’ during these uncertain times and keep all members of our community safe. Thank you for your continued support, It is very much appreciated by us all. I would just like to remind you all of the following points.

We would like to ask that parents support us to ensure that all members of our school community are safe. Please ensure that you;

  • Drop and collect your child according to the staggered start and end times. This is so that we can reduce the number of parents in one place at one time. Once you have dropped off or collected please leave the premises quickly so that other parents can do the same.

  • Ensure that your child is dressed in warm clothes. The classrooms will remain ventilated throughout the day.

  • Please use the allocated coloured spots to collect your child to ensure social distancing.

  • We strongly encourage all adults to wear face coverings when dropping off and collecting their children. Our staff will do the same.

  • Unfortunately, we are unable to allow parents into school at this time. Please use the email addresses below for all communication purposes.

If your child or any member of your household develops coronavirus symptoms then you must stay at home and book a Covid-19 test.

I would like to thank you in advance for your continued support. Together we are stronger.

Shared mailboxes and communication

In these uncertain times, please remember that the main method of communication with your child’s class teacher is via the shared mailboxes. They are checked daily and can be used to ask questions, pass on information or check details:

Message Mr Denchfield

As you may be aware, I started my new role as Executive Headteacher of Broadford and Mead last week. It is a time of great challenge for our country and our school communities and I wanted to reassure you that my immediate priority is to support Mrs Smith and Mrs Nicholls, the staff, children and parents though the next few months as best we can. These are extraordinarily challenging times and we will continue to work tirelessly to help and support you and your children where we can.

Most days, I am on the school gate in the mornings at Mead or Broadford. Please do come over and say hello and share any thoughts you have on our schools.  I know that much great work that has taken place over the years, and that there are, of course, areas in which we could be even better. I very much look forward to getting to know you all and to working in partnership with you as we move into the next phase of The Learning Federation’s journey and I will endeavour to always give your children my all as I lead both Broadford and Mead into the future.

Take care and stay safe.
