Pyrgo 1 - 4 Broadford

Last season Pyrgo were one of the toughest teams that we faced. Well organised and with a good coach their footballers ensured the match was a real examination of our credentials. Undaunted, the boys made the long walk up the hill to put Steve's coaching into practice.

Blended with the strong Year 6 backbone of Tommy, Toheeb (captain), Bailey and Ife were five new Year 5 players: Jordan, Rio, Fletcher, Jack, and Tyler.

From the moment the game kicked off the Broadford boys showed they were prepared to work hard for each other. Like a wriggling eel, Jordan twisted and turned his way down the wing. On the opposite side of the pitch, Tyler gave the Pyrgo full back a torrid time as he darted left then right. However it was still difficult to get the ball to Fletcher. Half time came in at 0-0, the game was delicately poised.

Finally the break through came. From a powerful corner Fletcher controlled the ball on the near post and turned his angled shot into the bottom corner... GOAL! At 0-1 to Broadford, it was likely that Pyrgo would launch a strong attack. Waves of red shirts crashed forward, but the defence was able to stay strong. Despite a couple of attacks piercing the Bailey and Toheeb wall, there was no chance of conceding. Dashing out from his goal, Tommy was quick to snuff out any Pyrgo opportunity.

Suddenly Broadford broke free. Rio buzzed across the midfield and released Ife. His direct running had already caused problems for the opposition. This time Fletcher benefitted from a great pass... 0-2 Broadford.

From a quick corner, Pyrgo managed to pull one back. But it wasn't enough. Although Rio had to launch himself across the goal to block a great shot from the Pyrgo centre forward, we began to get the upper hand. Jack was now on the pitch and combining well with Ife and Fletcher to create a number of chances. With the light fading and the drizzle starting to fall the boys made sure there could be no Priory comeback. Two more goals from the team ensured that victory was ours - the unbeaten run continued!
