Facts: Fish & Maypoles

Did you know that fish extract oxygen from the water by using their gills? Tuna can swim at speeds of up to 43mph and relative to their body size, fish have very small brains compared to other animals.

Did you knw that a giraffe can grip objects with its tongue? This means it is prehensile. Incredibly their tongues can be up to 60cm long!

100 million years ago, crocodiles would grow up to twice the length they reach now. That could mean a crocodile that is up to 12metres!

Did you know that the first drink experienced in Space was Coca Cola? Astronauts on board the Space Shuttle Challenger tested the popular soft drink on a voyage on July 12th 1985. It cost Coca Cola $250,000 for the privilege.

Did you know that the surface of the Earth is made up of huge plates of rock? The plates make up Earth's outer shell, called the lithosphere. Churning currents in the molten rocks below move them around. Most earthquakes are caused by the plates rubbing against each other.

Have you ever had heel pain? Plantar fasciitis is a very common cause of heel pain. The thick fibrous bands at the bottom of the heel get inflamed and cause excruciating pain. Plantar fasciitis is most common in runners, women who are pregnant and those who wear shoes with inadequate heel support.

Many experts believe that all dinosaurs were related to the birds we see today. That would mean that many species of dinosaur had feathers!

Incredibly the honey bee is able to flap its tiny wings 230 times per second!

Incredibly in Romania, the youngest child in the village has to try and climb the Maypole! If they manage to get to the top, they have to try and stay there for four days, or until the fall off.
