Digital Leaders Meet Chafford School

Pupils from Broadford Primary and The Chafford Secondary school have been meeting up to discuss ways in which they can learn from each other about using technology to improve learning. Digital leaders from The Chafford had heard about Broadford and their use of social media and YouTube during a recent presentation by Stephen Heppell.

"During a recent training day, we had an inspirational talk from Stephen Heppell. He advises the DfE on how technology can be used effectively in schools. There were lots of amazing examples from around the world... and then there was Broadford Primary. When we realised there was a school right on our door step where we could go and learn about what they've been doing, the children jumped at the chance!" Claire Bannister - Technology Teacher The Chafford

The Broadford Digital Leaders showed their Secondary counterparts how they are responsible for creating blog posts to recognise pupil achievements (writing, maths and displays), recording book reviews on audioboo and YouTube, videoing school events to be included on the website and trailling new ideas to be used in class.

"Our Digital Leaders are an invaluable help to the staff. They can set up the hall for talks and assemblies. In their club they learn about new software and Apps so that teachers have someone they can ask for help. During the week they hep to record evidence of all the great learning that is taking place in school. This meeting was a great chance to talk about what they do and make links with another school." Jessica Morris - ICT Co-ordinator

The next step is for the two teams of Digital Leaders to collaborate on some ICT projects that will link the two schools and for Broadford to visit the Chafford.

"I felt so proud that I could help to show a Secondary school pupil how to use audioboo. We use it all the time, but they haven't started yet. I'm looking forward to visiting The Chafford and seeing what they have done with the advice we've given." Samson Wright - aged 9
