End of Day Routines

We love to hear from our parents on how we can improve. Many parents said at the end of the summer term that they would like to know more about routines in school. We are very happy to provide you with information regarding our end of day routines.

We believe that every child should have a calm end to the day so that they feel relaxed and happy to return to school the next day. We also believe that pupils should have time to view reading as a pleasurable experience and have the opportunity to hear a story read to them. Our vision states that we want every child to become confident readers which is why we have dedicated time at the end of each day for story time in every classroom throughout the school.

At 2.40 each day all classes will be listening to a story which is read to them by an adult. We endeavour to provide a literature rich environment and develop a love of story, concentration skills and the ability to visualise and understand from the spoken word to written word.

We have a set of agreed expectations that is consistent in every classroom throughout the school.
At the end of every day, each classroom will;
  • Calm transition from the end of lesson time to the start of the reading session.
  • Pupils helping to tidy the classroom environment.
  • Orderly transition to prepare for going home.
  • Enjoy a read aloud session and access to a quality text and the opportunity to discuss the text with the expert reader.
  • Staff saying goodbye to pupils as they leave the classroom
Dismissal from School
School finishes at 3.00pm for all pupils in Reception - Year 6. All pupils will be dismissed from their classrooms and must be collected by parents or another responsible adult. You must clarify who will be collecting your child with your child's class teacher. Pupils in year 5&6 can walk home on their own or meet you at an agreed meeting point with permission from a parent. Pupils in KS2 can be sent to a younger siblings classroom to be collected, again please clarify this with your child's class teacher. Unfortunately, to ensure that all pupils are collected in a safe manner we cannot arrange for pupils to be collected via the office or taken to an arranged meeting point for you. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

Nursery
Nursery pupils will be collected via the Nursery main door. Please see Nursery staff for details.

Reception
Reception parents can use the same door that they use to enter each morning. You can access the classroom door via the slope to collect your child. Please also exit via the slope. This door will be opened at 2.55 pm each day.

Years 1-6
All other parents will be able to access the school site at 2.55 pm via the second gate on Faringdon Avenue. The waiting area will be open at 2.30 pm. Please use the path alongside the new building to access classrooms at the back of the site. You will then be able to exit the school via the same way, around the back of the school and via the new gate on Faringdon.

If you require ramp access, you are able to use the ramp at the door to the right of the main building to enter and exit at the end of the day. You can make your way through the reception play area towards the rear of the site and return this way. We do ask that you are considerate and only use this access if you require it to ensure that there is adequate room for those who need it. Many thanks.

Please ensure that all pupils are collected from their classroom on time and no later than 3.05 pm.

Thank you all for your constant co-operation in this matter.
