Colour Run!

  Dear Parents and Guardians,

Our next Colour Run is on Thursday 16th July. This is a fun, vibrant event designed to celebrate our pupils’ attendance and promote fitness, school spirit, and plenty of smiles!

What is a Colour Run?
A Colour Run is a non-competitive event where children can walk, jog, or run through a course while being gently sprinkled with coloured powder at various stations. It’s all about fun and participation and there’s no racing or timing involved.

Is it safe?
Yes! The coloured powder is made from cornstarch and food-grade dyes. It’s non-toxic, biodegradable, and safe for skin and clothing. We’ll also be taking steps to protect pupils’ eyes, and volunteers will apply the powder with care.

What the children need:

• Children will need to wear a white t-shirt and old clothes: So the colours really pop!

• Bring sunglasses or swimming goggles: To help protect eyes.

• Pack a towel or change of top: The event is taking place throughout the day, so children will need their school top to change into.

Permission Required
To ensure that all pupils can take part safely, we require a signed waiver from a parent or guardian. This confirms that you understand the nature of the event and grant permission for your child to participate.

KS2 Choir - Register your interest for the Young Voices Concert

Dear parent/carer, 

Pupils in the current years 3,4,5 are invited to register for the KS2 choir for September 2023. Places for the choir are limited. 

The choir sessions will take place every Tuesday after school from 3.15pm - 4.15pm. In September rehearsals will start on Tuesday 19th September. 

I would like to ask that if pupils sign up that they make a commitment to attend the rehearsals every week. We are working towards the Young Voices concert which is on Thursday 19th January 2024. For those of you who have attended Young Voices previously there is a lot of material to learn to ensure that we are concert ready. 

Please complete the attached google form by Thursday 20th July so that we can let you know if your child has been allocated a place before we finish for the summer break. 

Further information regarding tickets and t-shirts will be sent once choir places have been confirmed.

The NED Show

This week pupils in years 1-6 had a visit from Chad at NED’s Mindset Mission This  is a positive behaviour assembly and Chad is a world-class performer who guided our pupils through a 45-minute journey filled with storytelling, illusions, yo-yo tricks and humour. NED’s message and memorable friends inspire students, promote academic achievement, and supports our school goals.

Yo-yo’s will be on sale next week in school at break times and lunchtimes, if children would like to purchase one. Parents have received an email about this previously, please check your inbox. 

Easter Activities

Next week (week beginning 28th March) to mark the occasion of the start of Spring and Easter, all pupils will be taking part in an Easter egg hunt and we will be hosting Broadford’s very first Easter parade on Friday 1st April. We are inviting all pupils to take part in designing, making and wearing with pride an Easter bonnet/hat.

The bonnet/ hat could be made from card, paper, or use a baseball cap/sunhat/wooly hat as a base. Then allow your child to decide what they would like on their hat, it could be flowers, signs of new life such as Lambs, chicks and chocolate eggs. It can be anything linked to Easter.

 
We can’t wait to see all of the creations in school on Friday 1st April. Happy crafting!

Day 1 - Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel

It is a beautiful morning and the sun is shining. 

Today is the perfect day to make a sustainable journey to school. Make the most of the crisp air and grab your scooter, bike or even walk to school. 

It is day 1 of the Sustrans big walk and wheel, so start today making a different to your health and well being and the environment. 

Worldly Wise: Endangered Animals

Every week, pupils have a 'Worldly Wise' assembly where they build and grow their own body of general knowledge.  By knowing a little about a lot they will be able to place events and ideas in context in a variety of different situations.

This half term we will exploring 'Endangered Animals'. Pupils will bring their booklets home soon.

The 'Worldly Wise' Challenge is an opportunity for pupils to complete further research and tasks linked to the half termly topic.  There are separate activities for Y3/4 (green sheet) and Y5/6 (blue sheet).  They can do as many tasks as they like and do not have to link to the landmarks we have explored in school but can be any landmark that sparks their interest. A copy of the challenges will be sent home this week.

This is optional, and on top of their daily 15 minutes of reading, 15 minutes of spelling practice and 15 minutes of times tables practice.  

The pupils will receive a special 'Worldly Wise Challenge' certificate at the end of the half term on completion of a project that shows a significant level of effort and challenge undertaken by the individual child.

Autumn 2 - Worldly Wise: Inventions!

'Space Chase' - Library Summer Reading Challenge

These wonderful children took part in the Summer Reading Challenge and it really was simple to do – when the summer holidays started, they made sure they were signed up at their local library.

All children received their very own Space Chase mission folder to get started.

They read six library books (or more!) over the holidays and collected special stickers to add to their folder.

On collecting all the stickers to find the aliens, they saved the missing books and completed the Challenge.

LAMDA Examination Results

We have the pleasure of sharing the wonderful achievements of last year's LAMDA participants.

LAMDA (The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts) is the UK’s largest statutory speech and drama awarding body. LAMDA began offering speech examinations to the public in the 1880s and since then the examinations have been refined and developed into a comprehensive system of performance evaluation.

LAMDA Examinations are designed to develop the skills necessary for effective oral communication and public presentation. These examinations will benefit native English speakers as well as those for whom English is a second language. We prepare and enter children for LAMDA Exams through out all stages as we believe that it is important to be able to measure children’s progress in speech and drama, gives children a sense of achievement, which improve communication skills, increase self-confidence and help them develop strong social skills.

They were examined against the following components: prepared speech (interpretation and technique) and knowledge.

We are extremely proud that all children passed with some glowing comments.

Young Writers Years 1 and 2 Competition

My Amazing Diary

Amazing Diary is a fun, exciting writing challenge that invites pupils to write a diary entry... from a day at the park or the zoo to school, a magical adventure or their best day ever... will a real or imaginary day inspire your pupils' stories? 
My Amazing Diary is the perfect way for your 5-7 year-olds to showcase their creative writing abilities. 
Younger children can practise their recounts while older children can delve into creative writing where crazy capers await them! Let imaginations go wild and see engagement go through the roof...

RULES

• Only one entry per pupil, there is no limit to the number of entries per school
• Diaries can be on the entry form or A4 sheet of paper
• Diaries must be your pupils' own work
• Ensure that all pupils include their name and age on their entries
• Entry forms can be collected from the office.
