Weekly Newsletter - Friday 29th April, 2022

Headteacher: Mrs L Nicholls

Dear Parents and Carers,

Please be reminded that school is closed on Monday 2nd May for May Day (bank holiday). I hope you enjoy the extended weekend and look forward to seeing all our pupils back in school on Tuesday 3rd next week. School is also closed for pupils on Thursday 5th May as the school hall is being used as a polling station.

Eid Day - Friday 6th May
The school curriculum should provide pupils with a range of experiences that deepen their spiritual understanding of their school and their community as well as other communities. By their developing awareness children will learn to treat each other with respect. On Friday 6th May we are going to learn about the festival of Eid, which is also known as “The Festival of Breaking the Fast” and marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan. All pupils will participate in activities throughout the day and learn about this important day that is celebrated by many members of our school community. We would like all staff and pupils to dress in colourful clothes for the day the brighter the better.
We are looking forward to the special event on Friday 6th May

New School Website
We are very pleased to share with you the new school website. You can view this at www.broadford.havering.sch.uk
I would like to particularly draw your attention to the ‘parents’ tab where you will find the school calendar and the ‘pupils’ tab where you will find year group pages. The year group pages include homework expectations and links to the learning platforms that the pupils can use at home.
This is a new website and will continue to be developed with content moving forward, so please be patient if not all links are working just yet. As always, we appreciate any feedback or comments on content that isn’t included yet that you would like to see.

Parents Forum

As always, we love to hear feedback from parents, and we are thrilled to be able to re-introduce our parent forum meetings after a few years of not being able to meet together. This is an opportunity for us to be able to discuss ideas with our parent/carer community and gain the views of parents across the school. We would like to recruit one parent per class or three across each year group and then we can be sure that the views of parents across the school are being heard. We will be hosting a short introductory meeting this term and start planning for September. If you would like to volunteer to represent parents in your child’s class/year group and you feel that you are able to commit to an hour or so each term, please register your interest here.

Mrs Gibson
Next week Mrs Gibson is doing a skydive in aid of The Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund. If anyone would like to sponsor Mrs Gibson please drop into the office to make a donation or just to wish her well.
Good Luck Mrs Gibson!

Friday 22 April 2022

University of Broadford

At Broadford, we believe that the pupils should have the opportunity to choose a topic or skill that they would want to learn about. We believe that staff should have the opportunity to use an interest or skill of their own to inspire a high quality experience for the pupils.

Broadford University runs every Summer Term for ten weeks. The staff decide on a course that they might be able to offer:  for example sewing, cookery, literacy and dance. The pupils then sign up for the course they are most interested in.

Each week - on a Friday afternoon - our pupils have an hour long session learning and developing this new skill. At the end of the course, the pupils graduate with their degree!

Over the next couple of weeks the children will be bringing home a course overview to share with you.

We look forward to welcoming you to their graduations when their courses are completed. This will give the children an opportunity to share with you what they have accomplished throughout their time doing their course. You will receive more information regarding this nearer the time.

What is Broadford University

Broadford University is a 10 week programme that runs in the Summer term. The idea is to:
  • expose pupils to subjects and activities they would not normally experience
  • give them the chance to broaden their vocabulary with subject specific terms (meta language)
  • develop an idea to a greater depth - as there are 10 hours given to each course
  • allow pupils to work on a subject/course of their choosing
  • give pupils the chance to work with children beyond their Year Group
  • encourage pupils, at the earliest possible point,  to consider further education as a possible root to a future career

Weekly Newsletter - Friday 22nd April, 2022

Headteacher: Mrs L Nicholls
Dear Parents and Carers,

It is wonderful to be back at school for the summer term. It is hard to believe that we are in the final term of this academic year but I can categorically state that this term is going to be a good one. Today the University of Broadford opened its doors for the first time since 2018. We are all so excited for the next 10 weeks when the children will be learning a new skill and studying new topics. Of course, we will be holding our Graduation ceremonies and look forward to seeing you all there to celebrate with the graduates of 2022!
I would like to thank so many parents for their support this week, the positive messages coming from so many of you has been overwhelming. We have surely been tested this week but we cannot thank you enough for your support and continuous commitment to Broadford.

Summer Term After School Clubs

After school clubs resume on Monday 25th April. Please ensure children are collected at 4.15pm.

Polling Day School Closed

On Thursday 5th May  the school is being used as a polling station and will be closed for all pupils.

Summer Sun

We are very lucky to be experiencing this warmer weather so early in the Summer term. I would like to ask all parents to ensure that children have sun protection applied before they arrive at school. . It is also recommended that children bring caps/hats into school to wear during outdoor times. We will ensure that pupils have access to plenty of water throughout the day to keep them fully hydrated. Thank you for your support and co-operation in this matter.
