Parents Evening & Pupil Passports

We are looking forward to welcoming all parents into school throughout this week for the opportunity to discuss your child's learning with you.

At the beginning of the term you would have received a curriculum letter from your child's class teacher. This provides you with everything that you need to know for the Autumn term. What the children will be learning, what topics they will be covering and any special events that will be taking place.

You will leave the parents evening this week with a copy of the pupil passport for your child's year group. At Broadford pupils are on an 8 year journey, from Nursery to year 6, it is important that you know where they are going every step of the way.

We believe that pupils, parents and teachers need clear guidance on what is expected at each stage of the Broadford Primary voyage. We believe that we should support parents in helping extend their child's learning at home. We believe that by working in partnership, our children will be able to achieve and exceed our high expectations.

The pupil passport informs pupils and parents of key end of year expectations in the areas where parents will be able to have the greatest impact supporting their child. Now you know the destination and have the support you need, get ready to enjoy the journey.

We believe it is vital for parents to be regularly updated on their child's progress. We believe this information helps parents support and challenge their children more effectively.

At the end of the Spring term we will invite you back into school to discuss your child's progress on their learning journey. We will provide you with a mid-year review which will indicate whether your child is behind, on track or ahead of the journey to meeting the end of year expectations for the specified curriculum objectives.

At the end of the summer term you will receive a more detail written commentary about your child's progress and attainment along with a review sheet which will indicate again, whether your child is behind, on track or ahead of the national expectations for their year group.

If you wan to go fast, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Black History Month
Here at Broadford, we have been loving studying Black History Month this October. This year we have been looking at all things CARNIVAL!
The children have learnt about the times of slavery and how the black community would organise special masquerade balls to celebrate the ending of lent. These previous black slaves took their knowledge of the masquerade balls and redeveloped the celebration by introducing aspects of their culture, for example, the music, food and costumes in order to celebrate freedom and equality. This began in Trinidad and Tobago and was the beginning of carnival. This celebration was to encourage everybody from different backgrounds and ethnicities to come together to celebrate life together. The black community wanted everyone to feel as one big family and everyone to love one another for their differences.
On Wednesday 20th October, Broadford will be holding our very own Carnival conga line through the school where the children can showcase their carnival decorations.
On this day the children are invited to come to school in non-uniform, they can wear anything bright and colourful to celebrate this day. We can't wait to celebrate with everyone!

Thank you
Thank you to all parents and carers who have attended our stay & learn sessions over the past few weeks. It has been wonderful to see so many parents back in school. We hope that you found the session informative and useful.

However, this is only for siblings who are in the school and not for siblings who do not currently attend Broadford Primary School.

October Half Term School Meal Holiday Scheme
The Borough is continuing to support families via the School Holiday Meal Scheme as it did during previous holiday periods. The scheme is a way of providing funds to ensure that eligible families can purchase food over the October half-term holidays to replace the meals a child would have received during a school day.
Eligible families can apply to receive £15 per child per week to support with meals.
The application window will open from Monday 18 October at 9am, closing on Monday 25 October at 5pm. Families who received payment via the scheme previously do not need to reapply and will automatically receive the funds into their nominated bank account by week commencing Monday 25 October.
Eligible families who apply via the scheme for support and have not received money in the past, are expected to receive payments by week commencing Monday 8 November. If further eligibility checks are required, this may delay payment.
Details about the scheme will be updated on the Council’s website from Friday 15 October, with the application form going live from Monday 18 October.
