Front-Row Music Summer Workshops

Hi all! 

We’re pleased to announce that this summer we’ll be hosting our Front-Row Music summer workshop sessions on the 25th of August 2021 at Broadford Primary School! Priced at £12.50, these will be hour long workshops that involve loads of our usual fun games and activities for keyboard, ukulele and guitar! 

New students and beginners are also welcome to come along and get involved, the more the merrier! These workshops are a great way to try out music lessons to see if you like them before booking in.

Music Junction - Year 5

Some of our year 5 pupils are taking part in the Music Junction project with the London Chamber Orchestra, Bancroft's and Drapers' Academy. They took part in their first session last Thursday and Drapers' and were introduced to the instruments that they are going to be learning to play. 

The pupils are going to be practising and preparing to play at Cadogan Hall in May.

Cherry Sharing Assembly

Cherry put on a very informative sharing assembly this week: facts about space, diary writing and some inspirational singing!

First we heard what the children have been learning about the different planets in our solar system.

Did you know that Venus is the second planet from the Sun and is the second brightest object in the night sky after the Moon? The planet is named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty.

Lucas had found out lots of information that helped him to describe Mars is great detail:
The average temperature on Mars is minus 80 degrees Fahrenheit -- way below freezing! Its surface is rocky, with canyons, volcanoes, dry lake beds and craters all over it. Red dust covers most of its surface.

University of Broadford - Graduation

What is Broadford University

Broadford University is a 10 week programme that runs in the Spring term. The idea is to:

• expose pupils to subjects and activities they would not normally experience
• give them the chance to broaden their vocabulary with subject specific terms (meta language)
• develop an idea to a greater depth - as there are 10 hours given to each course
• allow pupils to work on a subject/course of their choosing
• give pupils the chance to work with children beyond their Year Group
• encourage pupils, at the earliest possible point,  to consider further education as a possible root to a future career

This year has been a huge success:

• 100% (87% of pupils strongly) agree that they have enjoyed the courses
• 73% agree that they would now consider a career linked to their course

I loved being part of the Broadford band. We've learnt how to play different instruments and how to read sheet music. At the start of it I didn't think I'd be able to perform in the finale, but it has shown me I can.

Music Tuition

We are absolutely thrilled to be able to offer pupils in years 2 - 4 the opportunity to learn to play an instrument. 

We are fortunate to have an extremely talented and passionate music teacher, Cornelius Orasanu, who will visit the school weekly to teach pupils how to play the guitar and piano.

Guitar lessons will take place in a group of 4-5 and piano lessons will be taught individually.
The cost of the sessions are £5 for guitar and £9 for piano. If you qualify for pupil premium funding then you could receive a discount on tuition fees. Contact Mrs Taylor at the office to confirm if you are eligible or not.

KS1 Hey Ewe

Congratulations to the KS1 team who put on a fantastic rendition of 'Hey Ewe!' for this year's Christmas performance. On stage we had some very impressive Kings visiting the stable. Our cheeky and inquistive Ewe... Sophie.... stole the show as she tried to peek at baby Jesus.

With their tea towels firmly wrapped round their head the shepherds looked very professional. There had also been an fantastic effort with the angels - shimmering and a vision in white.

Thank you for the tremendous parental support shown for the performances - it is part of our values that we will come together to celebrate the achievements of the pupils and the high levels of attendance was a testament to that.

Broadford's Got Talent

Pupils at Broadford Primary finished the year with a talent contest to celebrate their skills. From juggling, to singing to a stand up comedian the pupils had a wide range of acts on show with which to entertain and amaze. Despite the strong competition, there was a stand out winner... Sofia Raif.

Sofia impressed the judges with her flawless piano recital. She tackled a very challenging piece of music and played with both precision and passion. Sofia has clearly practised very hard to reach that level and we were delighted to choose her as the winner

I am so excited. Little Mix are my favourite pop group and I can't wait to see them live. The hours of practice were all worth it!

Sofia Raif - aged 8

Junior Music Festival Practice

Our choir had the chance to practice their Wind in the Willows songs in preparation for the event on the 23rd June. Have a listen to their voices... it sounded great!

Sofia's Music Award

Well done to Sofia Raif who has just passed her music exam. We are very proud of the way she has been practising at home and working so hard to pass this test!

Y5 Suessical Musical

In the week before the holidays, our Year 5 were lucky enough to have the chance to watch the Suessical Musical.

Seussical is a musical by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty based on the books of Dr. Seuss. Originally it debuted on Broadway in 2000.

The songs were so much fun. When all the cast came onto the stage it was so loud... I loved it

Sofia's Piano Achievement

Congratulations to Sofia who has passed her first piano exam. Although she has only been playing for a few months she has already shown great promise. 

Sharing Assembly - Cheerleaders & Dance

Despite only having a few weeks to put their new routines together, both the Cheerleaders and our dancers put on a great show last week. Twisting, jumping and flipping: their performances were full of energy and had the audience captivated!

Homes In Havering Xmas Lunch

Pupils from the Key Stage 2 choir travelled out to Hacton Lane to spread some festive cheer at the Homes In Havering Christmas lunch. Singing a range of carols, the welcomed residents to the hall.

It was so nice to come into the hall to the sound of their voices. The singing was excellent. Every year we look forward to them coming to sing to us.

Sharing - Dance & Cheerleaders

For the last Sharing Assembly of the year we had two great performances from the Cheerleaders & Dancers. Both clubs had mastered their routines and performed very confidently.

KS1 Xmas Show

Well done to all of our KS1 pupils and staff who put on a fabulous Christmas show this year. 'It's A Baby' was a real storm, with tea towel, tinsel and drama! 

Y5 Chinese Dance Workshop

As part of their topic on Ancient China, our Year 5 pupils enjoyed a session with a Chinese dancer to learn about the fan dance.

The Chinese fan dance plays a few different roles in China. First, it is used to help pass down stories and traditions of Chinese culture. Both tourists and younger Chinese generations learn classic tales and lore of China's past through the fan dance. This is why you can often see fan dancers at festivals, theater performances, and other exhibition-style events where the performers are able to promote their rich roots in history.

In addition, fan dancing also serves as entertainment. Fans are used as props, complimenting brightly-colored costumes for an eye-catching spectacle of movement. Chinese fan dancing also serves as exercise, as well as an exercise in discipline for its participants.

Like many other forms of dance, the choreography that comes along with fan dancing requires physical fitness and the ability to memorize routines. Being responsible enough to attend regular rehearsals and performances is another form of personal discipline.

History
The origins of the fan dance are rooted in the Han Dynasty, which dates to around 200 AD. The Han Dynasty was the first to value and preserve the arts, which is probably why fan dancing endures today.

The routines were easy at first, but then the teacher kept adding more steps! It was hard to memorise them all, but I really enjoyed it!

I didn't expect the dancing to be so tiring. I kept thinking that we were going to get a rest, but the teacher said we had to keep going if we wanted to learn all the moves. My favourite was 'The Peacock'!

Sharing Assembly - KS1 & KS2 Choir

At Wednesday's Sharing Assembly we were treated to a performance of the latest Young Voices medley by our KS2 Choir. Although they have only had four sessions with Mrs Nicholls they are well on their way to learning a very complicated piece. Not only are there several songs in just the one medley, the pupils also have to master the dance moves!

All of this is building towards their Young Voices performance in January.

KS1 have learnt the Wiggle Waggle song. A great tune, full of energy for what was a wet and dull Wednesday morning. They might be small in height, but their voices as very large indeed!

Sascha's Learning Challenge
