Emma Groom's Bowling Success

Congratulations to Emma who has been doing very well with her bowling recently. In the recent South of England Open she came a very respectable 9th in the Girls competition. This was achieved with a score of 518 (239 and 279)... amazing! Her score was good enough to earn 12th place overall standings. In the doubles competition Emma managed to finish 18th.

If you're having a bowling party any time soon, make sure Emma is on your team!

Attendance Update: Ash & Pine Win

Attendance:

Key Stage 1: Pine 94.17%
 Key Stage 2: Ash 98.33%
 Overall Score: 91.02%

Some classes are continuing to do very well with their attendance. Ash have scored very well this week. However the weekly overall total is not as good. We still need to be making sure we are here every day. One class dropped as low as 80%, which is not an acceptable level of attendance.

Ellie Mae receives the attendance cup for Pine

Challenge Afternoon - 14th February Parents & Pupils

Parents & Pupils Challenge Afternoon
At Broadford Primary, we strive to ensure that all pupils are making progress in our lessons by offering them fun and engaging activities that they can get immersed in and enjoy. By providing this element of challenge, pupils are continually being stretched in order to further develop and increase their ability in all areas of the curriculum.

We would like to invite you along to see this in action! We are lucky to have a special guest speaker, Ann Nelson, at the school on Thursday 14th February to share with you the types of challenge we give our children in school and the ways in which these improve their quality of learning.

After the presentation, you are invited to come and visit your child in their class and see this initiative in action in the classroom and you will be able to sit with your child and assist them with their challenge, in their school environment. We are very excited to be able to offer this opportunity and we hope you share our enthusiasm with us by attending the talk. We look forward to welcoming you into our classrooms!

News & Next Week

A Busy Week:It certainly has been a very busy week. Reading has been a particular focus as our children have been visiting the library, getting their library cards and loaning their first books from Hilldene. In Year 5&6 our book club pupils were taken up to London to see War Horse following their book study. We had a story teller in KS1 and the EYFS yesterday as part of National Story Telling Week. Today we had an outstanding teacher – Jonathon Lear – in working with pupils and teachers to further develop teaching and planning across the school. On Tuesday our Year 5&6 pupils built their Victorian toys, an activity which they thoroughly enjoyed.

Next Week:Tuesday 5th February is Safer Internet Day. This is a great chance to remind your children about some key pointers: never give out personal details on the internet, only use age appropriate websites, only use kind language when texting or typing and speak to an adult if there is something they see which upsets them. We advise all the children to never share their passwords, but it is great if you can reiterate this at home.

On Friday the children have a drama workshop with the Freshwater Theatre. This is part of the work we are doing on the Tudors in Year 3&4.

Fact Hunters: Stars, Clothing and Hobbit's Feet

Did you know that a star’s energy comes from nuclear fusion. Although most of the hydrogen changes to helium enough is left over to produce huge amounts of energy.

The brand Lacoste was started by a French tennis player, whose nickname was ‘the crocodile’. The clothing company started in 1933.

Jaseem Miah
Jaseem has been blending fact and fiction this week. He has found that hobbits – the fictional Tolkein creatures – have very coarse soles on their feet. It means they can walk barefoot through Middle Earth, despite the rocky uneven terrain.
