Fact Hunters: Herons, orphans & snakes

Natalie Towner 
A fierce gust of wind blew 45 year old Vittorio Luise’s car into a river near Naples, Italy, in 1980. He managed to break a window, climb out and swim to shore–where a tree blew over and killed him.

Lily Reynolds 
Were you aware that the |Grey Heron eats lots of fish, but also small birds such as ducklings, small mammals like voles, and amphibians. After harvesting, grey herons can sometimes be seen in fields, looking for rodents.

Sophie Adams 
Did you know that he studied at the London Hospital, but never actually completed the course to earn a doctorate. Although he is known as ‘Doctor’ Barnardo, he never actually qualified as a doctor.

Neveah Hall 
Sea snakes belong to the family of cobras. These snakes can be found in the Indian and Pacific Ocean. They often have a paddle shaped end to their tail which helps them swim.

Personal Survival Awards

Congratulations to those children who have been awarded their personal survival. Bailey Westfall, Harry Hinton, Adam Trower, Sandra Diaz, Daria Bekisz, Kailen Davey, Lucy Lockhart & Nathan Owsley showed that they could, amongst other things: tread water for two minutes, swim 50m retaining an object and answer three survival questions!

Weronika Gariz, Kingsley Onwugbuzie & Keeley King have all demonstrated that they are taking pride in their work. We ask that all pupils do their best in every lesson. With their neat handwriting, tidy books and exemplary pride in their work they have certainly achieved job number two!

Finley's Fun Run Achievement

Well done Finley on your recent charity fundraising achievement. Because he is a Junior Gunner, Finley was able to take part in an event where the children could complete two laps of the Emirates stadium pitch. Having organised his family support to run with him, Finley set about fundraising. 

By the end of the event he had raised over £200 - and earned himself a shiny medal and certificate. Great job Finley, we are very proud of you!

Year 6 Stubbers Payments Due:
A reminder that there are some parents yet to pay the 4th April installment for the Year 6 Stubbers Trip. Please contact the office so that the payments can be made.

Bank Holiday: Closed Monday 5th May
School will be closed on Monday 5th for the Bank Holiday. We will be open as normal on Tuesday 6th and clubs will be running.

Next Week:
As mentioned above, school will be closed on Monday May 5th. When we return on Tuesday – at the normal times – we have the farm in to visit EYFS & KS1. In the evening we have a Behaviour & Safety Committee meeting. On Wednesday Cedar have their Sharing Assembly and the lollipop lady is due in to talk to the Nursery children. Next week we have the first of our Bikeability outings around the local area. The children will be visiting local parks and exploring bike trails. On Thursday afternoon Year 3&4 are off to Drapers for a PE session. Finally the Year 3&4 pupils have an Egyptian visitor in on Friday as part of their topic. During the day, Mrs Nicholls is taking some children to the Foodbank so that they can prepare for the upcoming food drive. We are also expecting a visit from Dame Angela Watkinson MP who has asked to come in and congratulate the pupils and staff on the ‘Outstanding’ achievement last term.
