'Look Who' and Important Dates

Children and families,

The Summer term is always a busy, busy term and although we are currently living in unusual times, this year is no different.

Below you will find some important dates coming up with links to blogs that will give you a little more information.

Virtual Sports Week: 6th -10th July
In the garden, at home or at school, all pupils are invited to take part in our Virtual Sports Week.  Each day we will blog and share on social media two activities for you to take part in and score.  More details can be found here.

End of Year Reports: 8th July
You may notice when you receive your child's report some changes compared to previous years.  These are:
  • you will receive an electronic version of your child's report.  You must click on the link at the end of the report to acknowledge receipt, and to add any feedback once you have read it;
  • you can discuss the report in your final telephone call with you child's class teacher.  They will call you before the end of term;
  • progress made by your child has been measured against mid-year curriculum targets, not end of year targets as in previous years;
  • following the cancellation of the 2019/20 national curriculum assessments, the DfE has laid regulations to remove the requirement to report the outcomes of key stages 1 and 2 tests, end of year EYFS profiles or teacher assessments in this year’s reports;
  • DfE has laid regulations to remove the requirement to report pupils’ attendance data for the 2019/20 academic year, in recognition of the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) on the possible attendance.
Transition: 10th July
Unfortunately 'moving up' day and 'meet the teacher' in person will not be able to take place this year.  However, our hardworking staff have compiled a blog so that every pupil can find out who their new teacher will be, what class they will be in and the opportunity to fill in an online form giving the new teacher some useful information.  This information will be blogged and released on 10th July.  In addition to this, where possible, teachers will be making contact via telephone with their new pupils.

Last Day of Term
A polite reminder that Friday 17th July will be our last day of a very unusual academic year.

'Look Who'!
As ever, so much creativeness, hard work and imagination has gone into your work this week.

End of Year Reporting Arrangements 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we near the end of an unusual academic year, it is time to soon share your child's annual report with you, taking into consideration  the cancellation of the 2019/20 national curriculum assessments and partial school closures due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

You may notice when you receive your child's report some changes compared to previous years.  These are:
  • you will receive an electronic version of your child's report.  You must click on the link at the end of the report to acknowledge receipt, and to add any feedback once you have read it;
  • you can discuss the report in your final telephone call with you child's class teacher.  They will call you before the end of term;
  • progress made by your child has been measured against mid-year curriculum targets, not end of year targets as in previous years;
  • following the cancellation of the 2019/20 national curriculum assessments, the DfE has laid regulations to remove the requirement to report the outcomes of key stages 1 and 2 tests, end of year EYFS profiles or teacher assessments in this year’s reports;
  • DfE has laid regulations to remove the requirement to report pupils’ attendance data for the 2019/20 academic year, in recognition of the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) on the possible attendance.
Reports will be emailed by teaching staff on Wednesday 8th July from your child's year group email box.  Please bare with us as we will be sending out over 600 reports.

Thank you for your continued support.

Broadford's Virtual 'Sports Week'

Virtual Sports Week
WC: 06/07/2020

We are determined to not miss out on some of the more exciting events we hold at the end of year whether you are at school or at home.  Our annual 'Sports Event' is no different!

With a few household items you’ll be all be able to take part, wherever you are. We’ve chosen activities that don’t require lots of space or fancy equipment, and don’t involve contact between children. But you are welcome to change the activities to suit your situation, the only thing that matters is that you get active and have fun.

Every day, next week, we will publish 2 activities with video guides that you need to carry out in your home, in your garden or at school.  You will record your results in this grid (you can draw your own if easier).

To make sure you are ready, here is a list of equipment you will need (if you don't have the exact same thing then use your imagination!):

Day 1: markers (can be literally anything), tape measure or a ruler

Day 2: marker, a target (bucket, large saucepan, washing up basin, etc), throwables (small beanbags, balled up socks, or anything throwable that doesn't bounce much), your sprint track from the first event, a spoon (big enough to hold an egg), a hard-boiled egg (or small ball).

Day 3: random objects to make an assault course, sprint track from first event, sacks (pillowcase, bin bag).

Day 4: space to dance, a music player, 4 markers, timer

Day 5: sprint track from first event, a stick (short broom, cricket bat etc).

Make sure you share photographs with us, we can't wait to see you having fun!

Statement from Havering Council's Director of Public Health following media speculation of local lockdown

Dear Parents/Carers

The Council have published a statement from Havering Council's Director of Public Health following recent media speculation and reports that local areas including Havering may be facing a lockdown due to increased cases of COVID-19.

The source we assume the article is based on shows an increase from 2 to 8 cases in Havering from one week to the next.  Whilst it is an increase, it is from a low base and is likely to reflect more testing and the outcomes of contact tracing rather than a sustained spike in cases.

End of Term Arrangements

Headteacher: Mrs L Nicholls
Interim Headteacher: Mr McLucas

Dear Parents
Just to give you an update on wider school reopening. Following the Prime Minister’s announcement in May regarding wider opening of schools Broadford is now welcoming back children from Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6. The school continues to cater for children of Key Workers and children deemed vulnerable.
To make sure that the children and staff are able to social distance when appropriate, returning children are in allocated bubbles of no more than 10 children. To enable this, each year group has allotted days and times.
I would like to thank all parents and carers for supporting the school while we were setting up the systems to allow for wider opening and in following all of the guidelines when bringing children back into school. You have helped to make it a very smooth process for everyone.
To make sure we can continue to plan effectively, the school will not be taking any further children after 6th July, your last chance to request a place will be 1st July. You can book places as normal through the year group blogs.
Earlier this week, the Prime Minister announced that in September all children will return to school. The school is currently waiting for guidance from the Department for Education to find out how this is planned to happen and whether we will still have to plan for social distancing etc. I will let you know as soon as I have further details.
Please note that the last day of term is Friday 17th July 2020
Thank you again for your support,

Jim McLucas

🔎 Look who! WC 22/06/2020

Children and families,

Thank you so much to all the parents, carers and children who took part in online, school learning and telephone calls this week. We have all been so glad to work with you digitally and in person.
Lots of you have produced some great work, beautiful drawings and imaginative writing to show us, and it really is a delight to see you and to enjoy all the lovely work and news you wanted to share.
We couldn’t be prouder of our Broadford community – these times, while
tremendously difficult, have also revealed the best in people and the positive
attitude, resilience and unfailing optimism of the children have raised all our
spirits this week. Keep it up, stay safe and have a lovely weekend.

Parents of Reception and Key Stage 1 Pupils - Lunches

A kind reminder that pupils attending school in Reception and Year 1 are entitled to a free school meal under the Universal Infant Free School Meals provision.
They include a baguette with a range of fillings, fruit, cake and a drink.  On a Friday, children can order chicken, tuna or cheese pasta.
