Reception Assembly

Music Equipment Installed

The Junk Orchestra has now finished installing the music equipment for the KS1 & KS2 path. It has already been put to good use by the children. On Thursday 26th, Saul is coming back to run a workshop for pupils on how to get the best sound from the equipment. They will then be making a short video to share with the classes.

Maths Challenge Winners:

Congratulations to these children who have taken part in the weekly maths challenge: Jackie Ramalingam and Maisie Clark. They had to list as many objects as possible that have square faces. Well done. The new challenge is to work out different amounts of change from £5.

Matilda Visit

Have a look at how our pupils feel the recent trip has helped to impact on their motivation to 'read for enjoyment'. A new book club will be starting in the Autumn term with Miss Sparkes. Don't forget to sign up for the Summer reading challenges... prizes will be on offer!

Fact Hunters: Snakes, ships and hedgehogs

Yemi Adedipe
The reason why snails have shells is to provide shelter from the harsh environment and also protect the internal organs. The shell is created by the secretion from glands in the mantle rim.

John Marshall
Were you aware that, when England fought the Spanish Armada, it is thought that only 67 ships out of 130 returned to Spain – a loss rate of nearly 50%. Over 20,000 Spanish sailors and soldiers were killed!

Fitzroy Bamgbelu
Along with farm animals, pythons will feed on wild animals such as lizards and antelope. The larger the meal, the longer it takes to digest. This means that a python may only need to eat 4-5 times a year!

Caitlin Bowden
Amazingly there are between 4,000 - 5,000 spines on a hedgehog – which are hollow hairs made stiff with keratin

Attendance Update:

KS1: Cedar 96.57%
KS2: Birch 96.7%
Overall: 95.34%

This week it is good to see that we have returned to achieving above our 95% target. There has been so much going on that it would be a real shame for any pupil to miss a day: Shakespeare performances, sports festivals, trips to the Olympic Park. Who would want to miss out on that?
