Weekly Newsletter 14th February 2020

Interim Headteacher: Mr J McLucas

Dear Parents and Carers,

It seems only two minutes since I was wishing you all a happy Christmas break. The short term went quickly but the teachers and children have achieved a lot  in the limited time. We have been working hard to improve the learning environment across the school and teachers and support staff have made a good job of refreshing displays and improving classrooms. Our year two classrooms have got new storage areas for bags and coats and we have improved the privacy of the toilets in Mulberry and Pine.
Over half term Reception will be getting a brand new stage built. This will really smarten the area up and give the children opportunities to act, play music and improve their listening and speaking skills. Further developments are in the pipeline for several other areas of the outdoor environment around the school.

Online Safety

Sadly we have had a number of issues lately regarding children and the use of social media this week. The children have been upset by messages and posts by other children. This is happening outside of school but the issues have an impact on children in school and are affecting childrens’ learning. I’m sure that you are aware of the importance of monitoring your children when they are online. Please can you be particularly vigilant when children are using social media.
As all of our children are under 12 years of age they shouldn’t be using social media on their own.

World Book Day
On Thursday 5th March, we will be celebrating World Book Day. Your child can dress up based on a character from a book they enjoy reading. If they have the book at home, they are invited to bring it in class and share a snip-it with their peers. The school is also running a 'Short Story Competition' from all children to enter. Please encourage your child to write a short story - no longer than two pages - about a genre or theme that interests them. The entries need to be handed to Miss Nicholas by Monday 2nd March so winners for each year group can be chosen. The winners will share their stories on World Book Day.

Year 6 Drama Workshop
On Monday 24th February, we have a production team coming into school to deliver a drama workshop to our Year 6 children. The workshop will discuss challenging situations the children may be faced with at Secondary School and how to overcome this. As well as this, the workshop will discuss knife crime.
