Headteacher: Mrs Lois Nicholls

Dear Parents and Carers,

Start and End of Day

Thank you again to all parents for your support and patience with staggered starts and end of the school day. The pupils have adjusted to the new routine brilliantly and we are so proud of how they are coping in these uncertain times. I do understand that the gate is very congested in the afternoon before we open at 2.50. We are just assessing to see if we can open the gate earlier, but we do have to ensure that this does not impact on any outside learning or PE lessons that may still be going on at this time. We obviously do not want to disrupt any pupil learning. Can I just ask that parents are considerate to each other and ensure that you are keeping space between yourself and others.
The Prime Minister and central government are not currently enforcing the wearing of face masks in outside areas. However, Cllr Robert Benham, Deputy Leader of the Council has written to parents this week and Havering council are requesting that parents wear a face covering at the school gates. This is due to the rising infection rate with the borough.
You can find  further information on government guidelines here.

Parents Evening & Communication

We are working hard to ensure that we can keep all parents informed regarding pupil learning during this time when we can’t invite you into school. You will have received a curriculum letter at the beginning of this term informing you of the curriculum for the Autumn term. Teachers are using our school blog, which can be accessed via our school website and social media channels to keep you informed about pupil learning. If you need to contact your child’s class teacher you can do so via our year group email boxes, addresses below.

eyfs@broadford.havering.sch.uk

year12@broadford.havering.sch.uk

year34@broadford.havering.sch.uk

year56@broadford.havering.sch.uk

Before half term we normally invite you into school to meet with your child’s class teacher and provide you with their pupil passport. The pupil passport gives you the end of year expectations for your child’s current year group. At the February parents meeting we will give you an update on the progress towards these targets. In the summer term you will receive a written report from your child’s class teacher.
Due to the current situation we cannot invite you into school for a parent consultation, however we will be carrying out these meetings via telephone. Each year group has been allocated a date and we invite parents to inform us if they would like a phone call before 5 or after 5. Selections will begin on Friday 2nd October and the deadline for these requests is on Tuesday 6th October. Your appointment time and pupil passport will be sent home on Thursday 8th October. Parent telephone calls will take place on the following dates;

Monday 12th October - Nursery

Tuesday 13th October - Reception

Wednesday 14th October - Year 3

Thursday 15th October - Year 1

Monday 19th October - Year 2

Tuesday 20th October - Year 4

Wednesday 21st October - Year 5

Thursday 22nd October - Year 6

Curriculum Enrichment

As a school we are committed to enriching the curriculum to engage and motivate our pupils. As we cannot take our pupils on educational visits at the moment, teachers are looking at visitors and workshops that we can invite into school to enhance the pupils' learning. We would like to reassure parents that we are checking any visitors' risk assessments and Covid-19 arrangements and any areas that may be used will be cleaned before and after by different bubbles.

Year 6 Parents

As your child is now in Year 6, now is the time that you will need to make an application for your child to start secondary school in September 2021.

Without an application your child will not be offered a Secondary school place.

Please visit the Havering website www.havering.gov.uk/admissions/secondary where you will find a brochure titled  ‘Transferring to a Havering Secondary School in September 2021’ along with a short presentation video which explains the application process and answers some of the most common questions asked by parents. You will also find a link to the application system (eAdmissions).

To ensure that you gain a clear understanding of the process we urge you to view these resources before you make any application.

If after reading the brochure and watching the video you have any further questions, please email the school admissions team via schooladmissions@havering.gov.uk or call the team on 01708 434600.

All applications for Secondary Schools must be submitted online by no later than 31 October 2020.

Flu immunisation

Your child will bring home a letter today regarding the flu immunisation program. The health team will be in school on Wednesday 14th October to administer flu vaccinations. Please return the form to school no later than Monday 5th October.

Havering Catering Services

From Monday 28th September the school kitchen will resume a hot service. Year 1 pupils will eat in the Charlton (new school building) hall and Reception pupils will eat in the Sorell (older school building) hall, this is so they have tables to sit and eat at. The halls will be cleaned before and after use. All other year groups will continue to eat in their classrooms.

Week beginning Monday 28th September is week 2 on the Havering catering services menu. All meals are served with unlimited salad and vegetables and cost £2.25.

Please be reminded to top up your child’s catering account as we cannot provide dinners for pupils whose accounts exceed a debt of £10.
