“Children who can regulate their emotions are more successful in school that children who cannot regulate their emotions.” – Marc Rowland
Looking after your mental health is extremely important for all children and at Broadford we support our children's mental health through various different strategies:
1 – Years 4-6 take part in journalling everyday after lunch to aid their transition back into lunchtime, reflect on their day and consider their emotions and feelings.
2 – Reflectiveness is one of our 4R’s and the when pupils check in every day (registration, after breaktime and after lunchtime) they have the opportunity to reflect on their emotions and choose tools to use to manage their emotions.
3 – The colours of Zones of Regulation are visuals reminders for the pupils to link their emotions to a zone.
4 – Journalling, checking in, tools and reflections are all mindfulness activities which can help with understanding emotions better, feeling calmer and boost attention and communication.
5 – Our teaching staff put in a huge amount of effort in developing relationships with pupils which gives them the opportunity for open communication.

This week at Broadford, we have been taking part in Place2be activities which involved creating art with the question 'What is important to you?'. Children placed these items in the roots of the plants or trees they drew. We hope to create a display of the trees from across the school to show what is important to us at Broadford!
