Top Tips for Staying Safe around Water

Whether it’s sunny days at the beach or fun in the paddling pool, children are naturally drawn to water. But with excitement comes risk. This guide brings together 10 clear, practical tips to help parents and educators protect children around water – whether that’s at home, on school trips or on holiday.

Backed by the Royal Life Saving Society UK, the advice includes knowing what beach flags mean, avoiding inflatables in open water, and learning to ‘float and call’ in an emergency. With a focus on prevention and supervision, this guide is a must-read for summer safety and beyond.

Weekly Newsletter - Friday 11th July, 2025

Headteacher: Mrs L Nicholls

Dear Parents and Carers,

Part 1 Broadford News

Year 6
Reports and Parents Evening

Your child’s end of year report will be sent home today. If you would like to discuss the report with your child’s class teacher all staff  will be available from 3.30 pm on Monday 14th July. If you would like an appointment please scan the QR code on the letter in the report envelope and fill out the google form. There is a feedback form which we would ask all parents to complete and send back to school by the end of the term. We warmly welcome your feedback and would love to hear if there is anything you feel we could improve.

Meet the New Teachers and Classes

Transition activities have been in full flow over the last few weeks in school. There will be blogs posted after school today, which will be available to read via the school website and facebook. This information will include year group staff for September and there is a letter with your child’s report today informing you of your child’s new teacher and class name. All pupils have had the opportunity to spend time with their new teachers in their new classrooms. I have no doubt that you have already heard all about it.

Year 6 Leavers
Year 6 enjoyed their leavers celebration this week and it was a wonderful occasion and a great time was had by all. Well done to year 6 who spoke, sung and presented like professionals. Thank you to the staff for putting it all together and many thanks to all of the parents who supported this occasion. It was very emotional!

We would also like to say a massive thanks to the parents who organised and financed the Year 6 leavers disco on Thursday evening. The children had an amazing time and demonstrated some amazing dance moves! The staff also enjoyed themselves very much! Thank you!

Last day for Clubs

After school clubs will finish for the summer term on Friday 11th July. Today. There are no clubs next week.

The Colour Run - Thursday 17th July

We’re thrilled to announce that Broadford Primary will be hosting a Colour Run on Thursday 17th July. This is a fun, vibrant event designed to celebrate our pupils’ attendance and promote fitness, school spirit, and plenty of smiles!

What is a Colour Run?

A Colour Run is a non-competitive event where children can walk, jog, or run through a course while being gently sprinkled with coloured powder at various stations. It’s all about fun and participation—there’s no racing or timing involved.

Is it safe?

Yes! The coloured powder is made from cornstarch and food-grade dyes. It’s non-toxic, biodegradable, and safe for skin and clothing. We’ll also be taking steps to protect pupils’ eyes, and volunteers will apply the powder with care.

How to Prepare:

  • Wear white: So the colours really pop!

  • Bring sunglasses: To help protect eyes.

  • Pack a towel or change of top: For a quick clean-up before heading home.

Permission Required

To ensure that all pupils can take part safely, we require a signed waiver from a parent or guardian. This confirms that you understand the nature of the event and grant permission for your child to participate.

Please complete and return the waiver by Monday, 7th July.

Waiver

We’re really looking forward to this exciting event and can’t wait to see our pupils enjoying such a colourful day!

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Mrs. Stanley. We're here to ensure this is a safe and joyful experience for every child.

The colour run is free for all pupils. However, on the day we are running a lucky bucket competition to win a colour hamper full of activities and treats for the summer holidays. If your child would like to be in with a chance of winning their year group colour hamper please send in £1 to ensure that their name is included in the lucky bucket draw after the colour run!

Summer Colour Raffle
As our summer theme is colour! We have a fantastic colourful raffle to raise funds for our school. There are many prizes to be won including a super duper scooter, picnic hamper and sooo many colourful hampers full of treats for all the family. Tickets are and are available from the school office every day and are priced at £3 per strip or 2 strips for £5.
