Dear Parents and Carers,
With the temperatures expected to rise over the next couple of days, we’ve made a few temporary changes in school to ensure that children stay safe, cool, and comfortable throughout the day.
Here’s what we’re doing – and how you can help:
Lunchtime Arrangements
Outdoor time is being reduced to 30 minutes, with time spent in shaded areas, under the canopy, or in the cooler new hall.
After this, children will spend 15 minutes in the classroom engaging in calm indoor activities (such as drawing or a short film) while they wait to be called for lunch.
This means that some children may spend less time outside overall, depending on when they eat.
Staying Hydrated
All children are encouraged to have a water bottle at their desk throughout the day.
Please make sure your child brings a named bottle of water to school each day and that it’s filled before they arrive.
Clothing
Children may wear their PE kit to school during the hot weather. This includes:
Navy blue shorts
Plain white T-shirt (jumpers, cardigans or fleeces not required)
Please also ensure your child wears:
A sun hat
Sun cream applied before school (we are unable to apply it in school)
Trainers (no flip-flops or sliders, please)
Parents will be called to bring a change of clothes if their child is not wearing school uniform or safe and appropriate trainers.
PE Lessons
PE will be adapted to low-energy, indoor activities such as relaxation or stretching to avoid overheating.
Cool Classrooms
We’re keeping windows and doors open for ventilation and using fans where needed (safely secured).
How You Can Help
Ensure your child is dressed appropriately in light, breathable clothing (PE kit preferred during this hot spell).
Send your child to school with a full, named water bottle.
Apply sun cream before school and send a hat.
Let us know if your child has any health conditions that may make them particularly vulnerable in the heat.
We’ll continue monitoring temperatures daily and will adjust our plans as needed to keep children safe and comfortable. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Thank you for your continued support.
