Kirsty Dances Her Socks Off!

Another dancer has come in to school proudly displaying her medals. Kirsty dances at Beverly Mark's Stage School. In the picture she is holding medals that she was awarded for three different dances: Little Bo Peep, Incy Wincy Spider and Little Miss Muffet.
"I really enjoyed doing these dances. For some of my performances I have been able to dance on the stage at the Queens Theatre. Of all my dances my favourite style is modern." Kirsty

Well done Kirsty. Another talented Broadford pupil. It is so good to hear of the extensive hobbies that a large number of our pupils are involved in outside of school. It ensures they get a well rounded childhood with lots of quality experiences - and mum and dad get to practise their cabbing skills!

We're Open As Normal Today!

We are open as usual today. In addition clubs will all be running as normal. By the end of this academic year the school will have been closed to the children for 5 training days, a Bank holiday next week and a school closure day for our move. We felt strongly that the children should not have to miss out on another day of their schooling.

The polling station is situated in the old hall and arrangements have been made to separate the running of it from the children. It will cause minimal disruption and allows your children to continue their learning.

We look forward to seeing you on the gate at 8.45am

Tesco Vouchers For Schools

Don't forget to keep sending in your Tesco vouchers. Amazingly we have collected several thousand so far; as a result we are on target to beat last years total. Tesco for Schools & Clubs is a long-running and very successful scheme that last year gave over 440,000 pieces of useful equipment worth a staggering £9.3m to schools and clubs around the country.

  • One voucher is given for every £10 spent in Tesco stores and petrol filling stations or for online grocery shopping at tesco.com.
  • One voucher is given for every £5 spent in Tesco Express stores (subject to the above exclusions).
Why not see if you have any relatives, neighbours or friends who could donate their vouchers to help the total?

Without a doubt the collection will all be used to purchase more resources for the children.

Chloe Passes Karate Grading

Never judge a book by its cover! Without a doubt that is good advice for when you look at Chloe: petite, delicate, radiant smile... yet armed with lethal hands and an amazing punch! At the weekend Chloe had to go for her most recent Karate grading to prove how she had developed her skills:

"During the test we had to listen to the instructions of our sensei. If we stepped off the mat - or didn't behave - we would fail! When I earn my belt I got a round of applause. At the moment I am on my Blue belt and my 6th dan."

All the evidence this week shows us that we have some mightily talented children at Broadford: dancers, Beavers and now martial arts experts! Please ensure that your children continue to share with us their amazing achievements. It is great to hear about all they get up to with their clubs and hobbies at the weekend.

Havering Rotary Quiz - Round 2

After the tremendous achievements of the first round, the Broadford team entered the second stage of the competition full of optimism. Matas, Josh, Emma and Cassie: they had all been furiously devouring encyclopaedias in preparation for the event. How would they fare against the minds of Harold Wood and Gidea Park Primary?

Each round sees the children face 12 sets of questions. In each section they face three tests of their general knowledge, with the two judges keeping a track of the scores. After the opening flurry of questions the teams were very evenly balanced. In fact by half time there were only 6 points between Harold Wood (1st place) and Gidea Park (3rd place) - which meant we were ideally placed for a second half surge.

Unfortunately we faced some very difficult questions in the final rounds; as a result we were unable to close the gap with Harold Wood. Despite finishing second, the team did extremely well as they scored a very respectable 39 points against Harold Wood's 46. Gidea Park finished a commendable third.

David Sangojinmi interviewed our Broadford team for the pupil blog:
1. Who was the strongest member of the team?
A. We all felt we contributed equally to the score.
2. If you had to rank the difficulty of the questions, how many marks out of 10 would you give them?
A. Without a doubt the questions were hard... very hard! Consequently we would score it as 9 out of 10.
3. What was the hardest round?
A. Surprisingly we found the Olympics round the hardest because there was no multiple choice.

Well done to our team: Matas, Josh, Emma and Cassie. Knocking out Engayne and Dame Tipping was a great achievement. However Harold Wood were very strong and it was an excellent competition. Now we can look forward to next year!

How Do You Get To School?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-17853592

Do you leap into the car in the morning - its soft purring engine carrying you gently to school? Are you one of the pupils who walk the short distance from Dulverton to Faringdon Avenue? Have you ever caught the bus up the hill to save your weary legs?

If the answer to these questions is yes, spare a thought for these children.

In Kenya's Rift Valley the children - who live at 8,530ft above sea level - run to school every day! For some pupils it is a 40min run there and a 40min run home. Despite this they will still jog back to their houses for a spot of lunch before returning to classes for the afternoon. Can you work out how much running that is in a day... 160mins!

Is it any wonder that Kenya produces so many great runners?
