Pupil Passports - Informing you about your child's learning

We are looking forward to welcoming all parents into school this week time to discuss your child's learning and progress with you at the half way mark this year.

At the beginning of each term you will have received a curriculum letter from your child's class teacher. This provides you with everything that you need to know for the term ahead. What the children will be learning, what topics they will be covering and any special events that will be taking place.

We believe that pupils, parents and teachers need clear guidance on what is expected at each stage of the Broadford Primary voyage. We believe that we should support parents in helping extend their child's learning at home. We believe that by working in partnership, our children will be able to achieve and exceed our high expectations.

The pupil passport informs pupils and parents of key end of year expectations in the areas where parents will be able to have the greatest impact supporting their child. Now you know the destination and have the support you need, get ready to enjoy the journey.

This week you have been invited back into school to discuss your child's progress on their learning journey. We will provide you with a mid-year review which will indicate whether your child is behind, on track or ahead of the journey to meeting the end of year expectations for the specified curriculum objectives.

We believe it is vital for parents to be regularly updated on their child's progress. We believe this information helps parents support and challenge their children more effectively.

If you wan to go fast, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.

World Book Day Author Visit - Book Sale After School!

We are pleased to announce that Natalie Newman, author of the Lark the Shark series, will be coming back to Broadford on the 3rd March to celebrate World book day with a reading of her new book in the series, Lark the Shark and Wonda the Whale.

We cant wait to hear all about Lark's next adventure about friendship, kindness, being different and of course keeping our oceans clean.

Natalie will be selling signed copies of her book straight after school, in the playground for £8. If you wish to purchase a copy, please bring cash with you on the day.

Spring 1 and 2 Worldly Wise: TRANSPORT 🚌

Every week, pupils have a 'Worldly Wise' assembly where they build and grow their own body of general knowledge.  By knowing a little about a lot they will be able to place events and ideas in context in a variety of different situations.

Over the next few months, children are finding out about TransportAny transport system available for shared use by the public. London has one of the largest public transport networks in the world.

The 'Worldly Wise' Challenge is an opportunity for pupils to complete further research and tasks linked to the half termly topic.  There are separate activities for Y3/4 (green sheet) and Y5/6 (blue sheet).  They can do as many tasks as they like and do not have to link to the transport options we have explored in school but can be any type of transportation that sparks their interest.

This is optional, and on top of their daily 15 minutes of reading, 15 minutes of spelling practice and 15 minutes of times tables practice.

The pupils will receive a special 'Worldly Wise Challenge' certificate at the end of the half term on completion of a project that shows a significant level of effort and challenge undertaken by the individual child.

You pick what you research; you're in control!
We cannot wait to see where your learning takes you!

Industrial Action
As you will be aware the National Education Union has announced industrial action with the first day being Wednesday 1st February. Staff do not need to decide if they are taking part until the day and we are not allowed to insist that staff inform us if they are participating, nor even inform us of which union they are part of.

As you will understand, we are unable to plan for either school within The Learning Federation to safely open with potentially the entire teaching staff being absent on this day, in 2 large schools with over 1300 pupils. We are therefore taking the decision that it is not operationally safe for us to open the school on this day to all pupils and both Broadford and Mead primary schools will be closed to all pupils on Wednesday 1st February.

“Love the HIll” Community Day
On Saturday 4th February, there is a family fun day at MyPlace.
