Years 5 children were invited to apply for the position of JRSO’s. After completing a detailed application form, where they had to be able to prove that they were up to the job, children were selected to take on this responsibility. The JRSO’s have only been in post for one week but they are already planning a campaign to make children more aware of “being bright and being seen” when travelling during the autumn and winter months. They are also going to take responsibility for organising the Walk To School initiative and encourage their peers to walk instead of getting in a car and earn rewards in return for walking.
One of the JRSO’s, Dylan Houlston aged 9, said “I have never been chosen for such an important position before, I am very excited about this and am going to wear my JRSO badge all the time”
Mrs Nicholls the Deputy Head Teacher at the school said, “Many children in year 5 applied for this post and all of the applications were of a very high standard. I am sure that these youngsters will work very hard to bring awareness to these important issues.”
The school continues their work on safer travel and encouraging walking as part of their sustainable travel award.
