The deadline for applying for secondary school places is fast approaching. Please ensure that you have registered for an online account and applied for a secondary place before 31st October.
However the eAdmissions helpdesk will not be available after 5pm on Friday 30 October so it is recommended that you complete your application by no later than Midday on the 30th October. This will ensure that if you do experience any unforeseen problems, there is ample time for these to be rectified before the closing date.
Week beginning 2nd November is week 1 on the Havering catering services menu. All meals are served with unlimited salad and vegetables and cost £2.25.
Please be reminded to top up your child’s catering account as we cannot provide dinners for pupils whose accounts exceed a debt of £10.Central habits to success as a lifelong learner are; an ability to organise yourself, resilience to stick at a task you struggle with, manage time effectively and most importantly - to learn through reading. As a school we have a responsibility to make reading 'normal' for our pupils. This is why we invest so much in our library and reading activities. We want staff and pupils to talk about books and model to each other the importance of reading in our lives.
We want our pupils to learn good habits of reading and establish reading as a supremely glorious human act. That is why we have come up with 105 books to read before you leave Broadford. There are 15 books per year group. Each year pupils can earn their Bronze, Silver and Gold reading awards and earn rewards on their reading journey. By the time they leave us in year 6 they would have made their way through a great list of books, old and new. These titles are sure to inspire more reading and a love of books for years to come.
This system is replacing the previous reading reward scheme but is in addition to the regular reading books that are sent home weekly. This is about developing our children's love of reading and it may be that you sit and read these books with or to your child. We have these books in school for the children to borrow or you may have some of these books at home to enjoy together. You could also visit your local library and borrow titles from the list.
We want to encourage our pupils to read quality texts and really enjoy and appreciate them rather than trying to read as many books as possible. It may be that your child loves these books so much that they want to read them over and over again. We believe these 105 quality texts will enrich the pupils reading journeys.
This will start on Monday 2nd November. There will be a separate blog post for each year group. Enjoy reading these wonderful books with your children!
Great job to everyone who participated in last week's maths challenge.
A special congratulations to our winners: Danny, Praharsh, Anish, Tele and Aksanan!

Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a very busy week in school. Pupils have had their photographs taken and the health team have administered flu immunisations. Year 6 pupils have enjoyed a historical experience to enhance their learning. This half term has been very different to our usual school experience and we are fast approaching half term. Staff are working hard to ensure our pupils’ education is not disrupted at this time and although we cannot fully operate as we have previously we are striving to provide the best school experience that we possibly can.
Parents’ Evening
Thank you to all of the parents who have engaged in telephone calls with teachers over the past week. If you haven’t spoken with your child’s class teacher yet, they will continue to catch up with any parents who haven’t received a call yet this week. We hope that you found the pupil passports informative and enjoyed the opportunity to speak with teachers.
Parent telephone calls will continue next week on the following dates;
Monday 19th October - Year 2 except Pine class
Tuesday 20th October - Year 4
Wednesday 21st October - Year 5 and Pine class - Year 2
Thursday 22nd October - Year 6
Year 6 Parents - 31st October 2019
The deadline for applying for secondary school places is fast approaching. Please ensure that you have registered for an online account and applied for a secondary place before this date. If you require any assistance please come into the office and see Mrs Taylor.
