Weekly Newsletter - Friday 12th January, 2024

Headteacher: Mrs L Nicholls
Dear Parents and Carers,

Part 1 Broadford News

Winter is here!

There has definitely been a drop in temperature this week. The mornings are chillier and the air is much fresher! Please ensure that your child comes to school prepared for this weather everyday, even if they travel by car. The children do go outside everyday and some children have not brought coats to school this week. We only have a small amount of clothing to lend out so please send your child to school appropriately dressed for the weather.

Stay & Learn Sessions

We invite all parents & carers to join us for this half term parents information session and the focus for all year groups is Mathematics. All of the sessions will start at 9 am (except Nursery). Please wait at the front of the school by the main school office and a member of staff will come and collect you.

24th January - Year 2

25th January - Year 5

30th January - Year 3
31st January - Year 1

Clubs start again on Monday 15th  January. The doors will be labelled with the clubs that are being dismissed from that area. If your child is not attending an after school club please collect them at the usual time of 3.15 pm. Thank you to Ms Float, Miss Evans, Miss Maguire and Mrs Martin who organise all of the after school clubs for our pupils to enjoy.

Reception Admissions September 2024

Applications for our September 2024 Reception cohort close on 15th January. Children moving from Nursery to Reception need to complete an application too. Don’t miss the deadline, get your application in. Please see Mrs Gibson in the office if you need any support at all.

School Meals
I am pleased to be able to report that the Mayor of London has extended the universal free school meal offer. All primary aged pupils will continue to receive free school meals throughout the academic year 2024-25. Please see the attached letter with further information from the Mayor’s office.

IMPORTANT & URGENT MESSAGE – Please help us to provide the very best education to your children.

This year and next year funding from the Mayor of London is paying for free school meals for all primary age children.

However because all of the children can now get a free school meal, many people do not realise that if they are eligible and register for free school meals our school receives additional funding which enables us to provide essential learning resources, inspiring experiences and great facilities for our children. Please help us by registering now if you are eligible. If you don’t register the funding we could have to support your children will be lost.

Additionally if your child is eligible for free school meals you will also receive:

  • Additional financial support for food during school holidays to help you feed your family (the Havering school meal holiday scheme)

  • Access for your children to fun activities clubs during school holiday where they receive a hot, nutritious meal (the Holiday Activities and Food Programme HAF)

  • A voucher for each child, once per year, to assist with the cost of school uniform (redeemable at Premier Schoolwear)

  • Assistance with contributions towards school trips and residential visits

Some children / families are put off because they think that Free School Meals status means that they have to eat the school lunches. This is not true!
If you prefer to bring a packed lunch, that is absolutely fine. The school dinners will be there for you should you want them… but they are not compulsory.
If your child is eligible for free school meals and you have not yet registered, please register NOW –  you will be helping us and we can help you!
Who is eligible? If you are in receipt of any of the following benefits your child may be eligible for free school meals.

* Income support

* Income based Jobseekers Allowance

* Income related Employment Support Allowance

* Guaranteed Element of State Pension Credit

* Child Tax Credit (but not Working Tax Credit) and have an annual income of less than £16,190

* Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

* Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

* Universal Credit (your household income must be less than £7,400 a year after tax and not including any benefits you receive)

If you believe you may be eligible please click on the link below and complete the application form

https://www.havering.gov.uk/info/20006/schools_and_education/431/school_support

We are happy to help you apply if you are unsure of your eligibility - please contact Mrs xxxx in the school office.

Please do this today! It is very important for us to have all of our eligible families registered ASAP!
