Dear Parents and Carers,
Part 1 Broadford News
Happy New Year
Happy new year to you all and welcome back after the break, I hope you had a wonderful festive period. It was great to see the children coming back to school yesterday full of enthusiasm, ready for an exciting term. While this is a short term it is usually a very productive time, children know the routines and expectations and teachers are able to concentrate on children’s progress. We will be opening the door of the University of Broadford again this term and we know how much these activities are able to really capture the children’s imagination. I know that you will enjoy the opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher at the end of this half term to receive an update on their learning so far this year. I am looking forward to a wonderful Spring term.
School Uniform
It has been wonderful to see all of the pupils return to school looking very smart in their school uniform. Please be reminded that the school colours are navy blue and grey/black. All school uniform is available through Premier School Wear (http://www.premierschoolwear.co.uk). If you require any assistance with uniform please speak to Mrs West in the school office.
Newsletters 2024
As you are aware we try to be as paperless as we possibly can as a school. We want to reduce our carbon footprint so that we can create a better environment for the future and our children. The weekly newsletter will continue to be available via the school blog (accessed via the school website), facebook and twitter and will be emailed via the sQuid system.
Please ensure that your details are up to date on the school system and if you have changed your email address or telephone number that you let us know as soon as possible.
Reception Admissions September 2024
If your child is looking to join our school in Reception 2024 it is vital that you get your application completed by 15th January 2024 or it is likely you will miss out. Last year we had over 200 applications for just 90 places. Even as a three form entry school, we have more expressions of interest than we have places – YOU MUST APPLY! Attending our Nursery will have no impact on your application. Many parents mistakenly believe that a place in the Nursery = a place in Reception… it doesn’t!
Shared mailboxes and communication
Don’t forget that you can contact staff using the shared mailboxes. They are checked daily and can be used to ask questions, pass on information or check details:
nursery@broadford.havering.sch.uk
reception@broadford.havering.sch.uk

year3@broadford.havering.sch.uk
year4@broadford.havering.sch.uk

We are always happy to answer any questions you may have. I will be at the gate every morning for you to speak to in person. Most mornings you will also be able to find Mrs Stanley, Mrs Ward, or Mrs Wallis to help you with any enquiries. If you would prefer an appointment please call into the office to fix a time.
Winter is Coming!
As we return from the festive break, the air is crisper and the temperature is lower. Please remember that children will go outside everyday and will require coats, hats, scarves, gloves and appropriate footwear.
In order to keep the school environment as clean and comfortable as possible we encourage pupils to bring indoor shoes into school. These could be slippers or sliders that they could change into once they have come inside after being outside.
Thank you for your continued support in this matter.
New Staff
We are delighted to introduce our new members of staff to you.
Mrs Marie has started as the teacher for Aspen class covering Miss Davies maternity leave.
We welcome Ms Marcus, Ms Kazakova, Ms Frost, Ms Mihai, Ms Gobindram and Ms Yakubu who have all joined our teaching assistant team.
Weekly Attendance Target 96%
Our attendance percentage for the first term of the year was 94%. We are below the target set for all schools by the government and we would really love to see this percentage rise this term. Remember the number 1 job for ALL pupils is to come to school everyday on time. Children should now be in school by 8.45 am. After this time they will be registered as late.
Breakfast Club
Breakfast club runs every morning from 7.45 am. The cost of breakfast club is £2.00 which is payable via sQuid. Please make sure that you book your child’s place by 3.00pm the day before you would like them to attend on the sQuid system.
After School Clubs
After school club applications close this evening at midnight. The form will then open again on Monday morning with the remaining spaces that are still available.
After school clubs will start on Monday 15th January.
