CYP 2012 is a way for children and young people to let Havering Council and others know what it is like for them to live in their local areas and how satisfied they are with the places they go to for help, advice and fun. This is the sixth year that this or a very similar survey has taken place.
Your answers are very important as they will help to improve things for children and young people in your area. This is your opportunity to tell us what you really think. Please be as honest as you can – all your answers are confidential. This means that your name is not recorded and your own responses will not be seen by anyone at your school. Your responses may not be confidential, however, if you have had help to complete the survey.
How does it work?We want to collect the views of as many children and young people attending Havering schools as possible.
This survey can either be completed in school time in schools that have agreed to use lesson time, or you can complete it at home or wherever you have access to a computer.
Each school randomly selects classes to take part in the survey. In a primary school it will be classes in year 6. In a secondary school it will be classes from each of years 8 and 10.
What will happen to the information?The information you provide on the questionnaire is as confidential as possible. It should not be possible for anyone to identify what you have said.
In the Spring, your school will get a report on all the views of children and young people from your school and will be able to see how these compare with the views of children and young people in Havering as a whole.
Remember, you do not have to answer anything which you don’t want to.

What is going to happen next?You will use your computer to access an on-line survey which takes about 20-30 minutes to complete.
If you type www.havering.gov.uk/CYPsurvey2012 into your search bar, you will be at the Havering website, here you need to choose which version of the survey to complete; Primary if you are in Yr 6, or Secondary if you are in Yr 8 or 10. Clicking on the link will take you to the first page of the survey.
Most of the questions just require you to read the question and answer, and tick the relevant box.
The survey is open from Monday 5th November to Friday 14th December 2012
During the winter, Havering will analyse the responses and write a report.
