Children Draw Book Characters

Inspired by the sketches of Mike Spoor, the pupils have been creating their own book characters in charcoal drawings. With his advice, they have practised their lines, not worried about making mistakes and enjoyed the activity. What would your book character look like? Would you have a serious character or someone more mischievous?

Certainly the children have been paying much more attention to the illustrations which bring a story to life. Nursery and Reception children have been reading about the Tiger Who Came To Tea this week. Animated drawings on the iPad have bought the book to life and left the children asking lots of great questions:

  1. How much food does a tiger need to eat?
  2. Where do tigers live?
  3. Why didn't the tiger eat the mum and daughter?
  4. Where had the tiger come from?
The new library system, visits from authors and illustrators, visits to the theatre to see books bought to life on stage and prizes for star readers mean that reading for enjoyment has really started to take off at Broadford!
