Too many parents ditch the daily reading habit once their child reaches the age of seven, according to research for Oxford University Press.
Some 44% of 1,000 parents of 6- to 11-year-olds polled said they rarely or never read with their child after their seventh birthday.
At Broadford we have invested heavily in promoting reading. We have a full time librarian, numerous reading competitions, spaces for quiet reading have been created and a wealth of quality books. However it is the simple things that make the biggest difference. Could you find time each night to read to your child? Does your child ever see you reading for pleasure?
