Back to School - Thursday 4th September

Dear Parents,

This academic year sees the first time that Broadford has had two forms of entry in every year group. There are no more split age classes. Our two new rooms for the Year 6 children have been finished - we just have some furniture to put in. After the outstanding success of the Year 6 pupils last year, where every pupil achieved the level required in Reading & Maths, we have high hopes for this year.

Across the school we have over 30 new children starting as we expand in Year 4, Year 5 & Year 6. We also welcome five new teachers: Mr Lander (Year 3), Miss Connell (Year 3), Miss Porter (Year 6), Miss Mezbourian (Year 1) and Miss Barron (Assistant Headteacher).

So now that the school holidays are almost at an end, we are looking forward to welcoming your children back . Please read through the information below. If you have any questions that haven't been answered then please give the office a call (01708 342880). Mrs Taylor - our office manager - will be available from 11am - 2pm tomorrow.

Breakfast Club
This will be open from 8am as normal for children in Year 1 - Year 6. Once Reception pupils have started full time they can also come to Breakfast Club.

Year 1 - Year 6 Start Date
Children from Year 1 - Year 6 are due back in school from 8.30am on Thursday 4th September.
There are no clubs to begin with - they start from Sept 22nd - so pupils need to be collected from 3.15pm.

Universal Free School Meals
From this September, all children in Reception, Year 1 & Year 2 are entitled to a Free School Meal. However if you don't want this for your child it is fine to still send them in with a packed lunch, or take them home for dinner (12pm - 1pm)

For the children in Reception - Year 2 you do not have to get tickets for your child. They simply inform the teacher at registration each day what they are having for lunch. In the case that they choose a school dinner, they just need to inform the teacher of the colour dinner they would like. A copy of the menu for the Autumn term will be placed on the website later.

Junior pupils (Year 3 - Year 6) will still have to purchase tickets as before.

Free School Meals Status
If you are receiving Income Support then you are still eligible for Free School Meals status. In the Juniors this means that your lunch can be provided each day and you gain access to support for school uniform, trips and curriculum enrichment. In the Infants - although everyone now gets a free lunch - you would still be able to get help with the cost of school uniform and support with school trips. If you think you are eligible it is vital that you contact our office so that we can apply for you.

Every pupil who is eligible for Free School Meals helps secure £1,300 extra funding for the school. This can then be used to provide additional curriculum support; help with uniform costs; subsidies for school trips and other experiences.

PE Uniform
Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school. We have invested heavily in a sports coach, specialist PE teacher and plenty of PE facilities. It is vital that your children are able to participate fully in the lessons. They will need: navy shorts, plain white t-shirt, trainers, plain tracksuit for the winter months and plimsolls for indoor activities.

We look forward to seeing you on the gate on Thursday morning!
