URGENT - School Closure 2021

Headteacher: Mrs L Nicholls

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that you are all well and have enjoyed your Christmas break as best you could. This was certainly a very different Christmas and New Year from the one we usually enjoy with our family and friends.

I am sure that you will have seen last night’s Government briefing where it was announced that some schools within tier 4 would not be returning as expected after the Christmas break. We have received confirmation that all Havering schools will remain closed to most pupils from the 4th January 2021 due to the increasing number of confirmed cases within Havering.

The Government guidance is clear that Primary schools should only allow children of critical workers and those defined as vulnerable to attend. Broadford will be open to these pupils from Monday 4th January. A full list of critical workers is below and we will be contacting pupils identified as vulnerable on Monday.

If any of the categories listed apply to your child or your work is listed as critical to the COVID-19 response, please complete the questionnaire link below by 12-00 pm on Saturday 2nd January to enable us to make further plans in school.

List of Critical Workers
'Critical Workers' form

From Monday 4th January, the school day will be from 8-30 am until 3-00 pm for all key worker and vulnerable children. Children should come to school in their uniform and school lunches will continue to be available. Once we have an idea of numbers attending we will be able to provide you with information regarding entrance and exits to the school site.

Children who are not returning to school

Children who are not returning to school will be provided with remote learning via Google Classroom. The link can be found via the school website. Online learning will begin on Monday 4th January.

Please email your child’s class teacher via the year group email boxes if you are having any difficulties.

School Meals Any children who are entitled to Free School Meals (this does not include Infant Universal Free School Meals) who will not be attending school during this closure are eligible for a food parcel. Please contact the school office or email office@broadford.havering.sch.uk to request for this.

This is not the start to the New Year that we had hoped but it is vital we continue to do all we can to keep our school community safe during these challenging times.

At this time, we expect closures to be in place until Friday 15th January with further Government guidance expected before Monday 18th January. We will continue to update you as and when we receive this information.

If you have any questions, please email office@broadford.havering.sch.uk; we will do our best to support and guide where we can.

Take care and stay safe.
Kind regards,

Mrs L Nicholls

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

Tough times never last, but tough people do.
Robert H Schuller

We close the year 2020, I am sure that we all share a range of contradictory feelings. Sadness for those who have lost their health and livelihoods to this terrible virus. Pride in how we have all functioned together as a school community and supported one another throughout. We can also feel positivity for the future – not only to deliver the best education possible in the safest way possible, but also to ensure that Broadford Primary comes back even stronger than ever in January, with a re-doubled sense of the vital purpose of education and a commitment to achieving our individual academic and personal potential.

I would like to pay tribute to the way that pupils, parents and staff have coped with the current situation. It is impossible to have imagined us working together in such circumstances – and I am enormously grateful for your understanding, positivity and generosity. We have all needed to make significant compromises in terms of the way in which we have functioned and lived our lives. The messages of support and positive feedback that you have given to us have been appreciated more than we can say.

Thank you as well for all of the cards and gifts that have been given to staff. On behalf of them I would like to thank you for your kindness and generosity. I would like to wish you and your families all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Community Christmas Cheer!

Last week, the pupils of Broadford took part in a local intergenerational project to share Christmas well wishes to the local community.

Pupils across the whole school were tasked with making a Christmas card for a 'Grand-Pal' who is a senior member of the community. On their card, they were required to think of a question they would like to ask their Grand-Pal. The pupils really thought about what they would like to ask and as always, impressed us with their insightfulness.

Examples of questions asked were:

What was your happiest Christmas memory ever?

What was it like in the years after the war? It is really different to now?

What is your favourite thing about Christmas?

What is your favourite Christmas song and why?

The cards have now been sent to the organisers at Liberty Romford who will quarantine the cards before distributing them. They will then be writing back to the children and answering their question. Children are very excited to receive the responses!

We really hope that the cards will bring a much needed smile and Christmas cheer to our most vulnerable members of the community during such isolating times.

Weekly Newsletter - Friday 11th December, 2020

Headteacher: Mrs L Nicholls

Dear Parents and Carers,

Last weekend was certainly very challenging with the year 1 bubble and a year 3 class having to close,  I want to thank parents and carers for being so understanding. It has been wonderful to see all of the work you have been doing at home on Google classroom over the week.

Unfortunately year 1 will not be back in school before Christmas but as today is Christmas jumper day we would love to see some photos of the children wearing their Christmas wear.

On Monday we are welcoming back our year 4 children and staff after 2 weeks of isolating and on Friday our year 3 (Cherry class) staff and pupils, we are really looking forward to seeing them and welcoming them all back to school.

Over the next week, staff will be posting all the videos and photographs of our Christmas celebrations in school so keep an eye out for all of those stories.

Please be reminded that if your child is self isolating or quarantining for Christmas, they should not be leaving your home at all during the period of self isolation or quarantine, this may put others or themselves at risk.

IMPORTANT

The school is responsible for advising parents and staff of any new positive coronavirus test results (for pupils) up to and including 23rd December. Reception Admissions September 2021

If your child is looking to join our school in Reception 2021, it is vital that your application is completed by 15th January 2021 or it is likely you miss out. Last year we had over 190 applications for just 90 places. Even with a 3 form intake, we have more expressions of interest than we have places – YOU MUST APPLY! Attending our Nursery will have no impact on your application. Many parents mistakenly believe that a place in the Nursery = a place in Reception… it doesn’t!

Christmas Parties

There will be Festive Parties for children in Nursery, Reception and years 1-6 on Friday 18th December. You don’t need to send in party clothes or food. The pupils can wear their school uniform but they are very welcome to bring in a festive sweater (and headwear if you have it) to wear for the occasion.  We will also provide all the food for them too.

Final Day of Term: Friday 18th December

We finish school on Friday 18th December. School opens again on Monday 4th january  – Breakfast Club at 7.45am – with the gates opening from 8.30am and the usual staggered times in place. .
