Pretty Pot Painting in Broadford University!

Children who are currently completing the Cracking Clay course at Broadford University have worked very hard this week to paint their pinch pots. They made sure to think about their design carefully and were able to mix their colours to create the perfect palette.

Here is a sneak preview of some of their work:

"I wanted mine to be a mushroom design, so I planned it carefully and then painted it red and white." Ryan, Year 3.

"I used my finger to add some final touches to my colourful pot!" Mason, Year 4.

We were so impressed with the attention to detail that they demonstrated and we cannot wait to show you the final results when they graduate!

Keep up the amazing work, Cracking Clay Club!

Luke's amazing exam results!

Well done to our budding dancer and gymnast Luke, who has recently completed exams in freestyle, acro and tap and modern dance.

'In my grade 1 exam I got awarded highly commended, which is the highest mark that you can get. I danced in a theatre in front of 400 people.'

The exams test the child's competency in a range of dance and acro skills. Luke has clearly been working hard in his weekly lessons. He is looking forward to performing in his next show!

Weekly Newsletter - Friday 20th May, 2022

Headteacher: Mrs L Nicholls

Dear Parents and Carers,

Please keep close in your thoughts and prayers one of our Broadford families at their most difficult time. Whenever we lose one of our own it leaves a huge hole in the heart of our Broadford family.

If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart, I’ll stay there forever.
AA Milne, Winnie the Pooh

Well done to all of the pupils in year 2 who completed their end of year 2 assessments this week. Well done to all of our year 2 pupils. They have all worked very hard this week and should be very proud of themselves. I know that the teachers are immensely proud of the pupils and their amazing resilient attitude throughout the week. This year Broadford has been chosen for a local authority moderation visit in regards to our KS1 assessment. The moderators will look at the teacher's judgements and evidence and validate our assessments of the pupils' learning.

This week we have had a visit from our Opal co-ordinator who has been working with Mrs Stanley and Mrs Ward and training our staff to ensure that play times are much more effective and fun for all of our pupils. The pupils are very much enjoying the extra resources and opportunities that they have during these times and this was very clearly demonstrated to Cath from Opal.

However, I must remind all parents and carers to please keep pupils off all of the outdoor equipment at the end of the day as we do not want any accidents to happen without proper and correct supervision out there. Please can I ask that all families leave the site as quickly as possible as we do have after school clubs who use the outdoor area and these clubs cannot begin until the gates have been locked. Thank you all for your co-operation in this matter.

I must also ask that parents/carers do not bring dogs onto the school premises when collecting children from school. We do have pupils who have allergies or who have anxiety around animals and we do not want to cause them any worries when leaving the school. Thank you in advance for your co-operation in this matter.

Jubilee Celebrations
During the week beginning 23rd May, pupils will be taking part in lots of exciting activities to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee! Each year group will focus on a decade of the Queen's reign and explore some areas of life in that given decade.
There will be a red, white and blue dress up day on Thursday 26th May along with a special Jubilee menu. On Friday 27th May, all pupils are invited to a Party in the Playground. There will be music, food and games. Fingers crossed the rain holds off!
Please read this blog post to find out which decade your child’s year group will be learning about.
Jubilee Reading
We are running two jubilee reading challenges for the pupils. These will be started in classes next week and the pupils can complete them over the half term break.
KS1 pupils are challenged to read three books and record on their trackers.
KS2 pupils are challenged to collect milestones on their trackers for every 15 minutes of reading
We would love as many pupils as possible to complete their trackers by 7th June. Pupils will receive a certificate for participating and entered into a prize draw to win a royal-themed book. There will also be a special treat for the class with the most completed trackers!
Read! Read! Read!

Opal Stay and Play Sessions
We are looking forward to inviting all parents and carers into school over the summer term to find out more about the Opal play program that we have been implementing during break times and lunchtimes. Please read this blog post to find out when it is your child’s year group session.

Sports’ Day
We would like to invite all parents and carers to our sports afternoons, starting at 1.30pm, which are to be held later this summer term.
