Weekly Newsletter - Friday 23rd June, 2023

Headteacher: Mrs L Nicholls

Dear Parents and Carers,

Part 1 Broadford News

Year 5 Residential - Mersea Island

This week our year 5 pupils braved all of the activities at Mersea Island. They were lucky with the weather and after the thunderstorm moved on they enjoyed blue skies and shining sun for the rest of their time. We know that some of you faced your fears during your time in Mersea but fear is nothing but an obstacle that stands in the way of progress. In overcoming your fears you all moved forward stronger and wiser and we are all very proud of you. A huge thank you to our amazing staff who encouraged and supported the pupils and kept them safe while they were away from their families. Congratulations to each and every one of you.

Thank you to the year 5 staff who stayed in school and organised activities and visits for the children who didn’t go to Mersea. What a fantastic week for year 5!

Transition

The preparation continues for moving on. Next week the children will have a visit from a pupil in the year above to feedback the answers to their questions. This will give the children further information about the future.

Summer Sun

We continue to be  blessed with beautiful weather  and I hope that you are all enjoying the warmer days. I would like to ask all parents to ensure that children have sun protection applied before they arrive at school. . It is also recommended that children bring caps/hats into school to wear during outdoor times. We will ensure that pupils have access to plenty of water throughout the day to keep them fully hydrated. Thank you for your support and co-operation in this matter.

Teachers Strike
I am sure that you are all aware that the NEU has called another Teacher's strike for 2 days during July. I will be writing to all parents next week to confirm arrangements for both of these days.

School Dinners
Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London has announced a new initiative that from September 2023 all primary aged pupils (from reception to year 6) will be entitled to free school meals. The universal free school meal offer has previously only been available for KS1 children. Our school cook, Michelle, is obviously predicting an increase in numbers. Therefore, to prepare for September the kitchen is running a free school meal day on Tuesday 4th July. On this day a school dinner will be free for all pupils. If you are going to take up this offer from September we ask that you order a school dinner for your child on Tuesday 4th July, at no cost to yourself but to support our planning going forward.

Summer Fete
We are hosting our summer fete on Saturday 8th July from 11 am - 3pm. Looking forward to seeing you there.
