Weekly Newsletter - Friday 10th October, 2025

Headteacher: L Nicholls

Dear Parents and Carers,

Part 1 Broadford News

Outdoor and Indoor Shoes
As we start to move into the cooler months we would like to take this opportunity to remind parents of the importance of sending pupils to school with appropriate clothing for the weather. Children will still enjoy time outside even in the colder months, even if your child travels to school in a car, please ensure that they have a coat, gloves and hat to keep them warm.
We would also encourage pupils to bring into school a pair or indoor shoes or slippers that they can change into once inside. If shoes get wet and muddy they will then have a pair of clean and warm shoes and will be more comfortable. This will also help us to keep the classrooms cleaner for children to learn in.
Many thanks for your co-operation with this.

Forest School Clothing
Please be reminded that every child needs a change of long trousers (jogging bottoms are ideal), a change of footwear - some welly boots or waterproof walking boots (not trainers) and waterproofs (all in one or separates), for their Forest School/WILD Passport sessions. This clothing needs to remain in school in a named bag.
Many children have already got this clothing and footwear in school, but there are still some children who do not.  In order to enjoy the sessions and be able to participate fully, the children need to be dressed appropriately for the weather and the activities taking place. There are posters in each classroom showing the clothing/footwear the children need and attached to this email.

We do still have a few small waterproofs (suitable for Year 1 and Year 2 children), some larger jackets (Size 11-12) and wellies up to size 1 still available for sale, but most of the items we offered for sale have now been purchased.

Supermarkets (e.g. Lidl, sell reasonably priced waterproofs and wellies) PLease do speak to your child’s class teacher if you are having difficulty sourcing any of this.

Be Seen, Be Bright - Dress in Bright Clothes on Friday 17th October, 2025
As part of our Walk to School month and to promote the importance of ‘Be Bright, Be Seen’, we will be holding a ‘Be Bright, Be Seen Day’ on Friday, 17th October. We invite your child to come to school wearing their brightest and most colourful clothes! As part of the focused discussion during the day, classes will have their own fashion shows to review visibility and what the drivers see.
Dunsin, Eesa, George, Peace, Evie, Elkah & Jacob - Broadford’s Year 6 Junior Ambassadors say:

The Highway Code states:
“Help other road users to see you. Wear or carry something light-coloured, bright or fluorescent in poor daylight conditions.”
So, we highly encouraged children (and adults) to wear brightly coloured or fluorescent outer clothing which shows up well in daylight and at dusk.

Autumn Term Parent Consultation Evening - Wednesday  22nd and Thursday 23rd October
We are looking forward to welcoming all parents on 22nd and 23rd October for  parent consultation meetings. You will have the opportunity to meet your child’s new class teacher and find out how they have settled so far this year. The teachers will also explain the expectations for the end of the year for your child. You will  receive your appointment times today, please check with your children.

Our year 6 prefects will also be on hand to show you to the classrooms and will be asking parents to complete our annual parent survey. We are looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd.

Important Safeguarding Notice: Children’s “Spy” Books
We want to make you aware of a recent issue affecting some popular children’s books by Andrew Cope, including the Spy Dogs, Spy Cats, and Spy Pups series.
Some editions of these books include a printed web address at the back. This link used to go to the author’s website, but the domain is no longer under his control. It has since been taken over by another party and now leads to inappropriate adult content.
The publisher, Puffin, has paused sales and distribution of the books and is working with schools, libraries, and retailers to remove copies from circulation. They have stressed that the website has no connection to the author or publisher.
What this means for you:

  • If your child has any Spy Dog, Spy Cat or Spy Pups books at home, please check the back for website links and make sure they do not try to visit the site.

  • It is safe for children to continue reading the stories themselves — the concern is only with the outdated link.

  • We recommend talking with your child about the importance of not following web addresses in books without checking with an adult first.

We will continue to share updates from the publisher as more information becomes available.
