Dear Parent / Carer,
Next week, your child will be taking part in lessons that include the NSPCC’s PANTS (Underwear Rule) campaign. We believe it’s important children learn how to keep themselves safe, and these lessons are designed to do that in a gentle, age-appropriate way.
In these lessons, children will learn the PANTS acrostic, which stands for:
-
Privates are private
-
Always remember your body belongs to you
-
No means no
-
Talk about secrets that upset you
-
Speak up, someone can help
We will cover topics such as:
-
The difference between “appropriate” and “inappropriate” touching
-
That children have the right to say no to things that make them feel uncomfortable
-
Naming parts of the body
-
Who they can turn to if they ever feel upset, worried, or confused
All teaching will be delivered carefully, without using scary language or giving explicit details, and always adapted to be age-appropriate for the children.
If you’d like to know more about the NSPCC’s campaign and how you can support these conversations at home, visit the NSPCC’s Talk PANTS / Underwear Rule pages: nspcc.org.uk/pants NSPCC
If you have any questions or concerns about these lessons, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me (or your child’s class teacher).
Thank you for your support.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Ward
