Kumon Maths Stars

It is over 60 years since the Kumon Method of Learning was launched, and 100 years since the founder, Toru Kumon, was born. Today, over 4 million children around the world study the Kumon programmes, meaning that every minute of every day there is a child befitting from Kumon study.

At Broadford we have been using the programme to target pupils who need to be extended in their maths thinking. It enables us to see not just how our pupils are doing against the national standard, but also the international standard too - as Kumon is a worldwide programme.

Pupils who surpass the Kumon International Standard gain a place on the Advanced Student Honour Roll. Therefore we were delighted to be informed that 8 of our pupils have managed to achieve this status. Our initial aim was to improve attainment and progress at Broadford so that we were the best school on the Hill. Then we wanted to have the best results in Havering. In 2016 we were ranked #1 for progress in the country for the third year running and now we have pupils surpassing international standards!

Well done to all of our mathematicians. It goes to show that the consistent practice every day pays off.
