Weekly Newsletter - Friday 11th March, 2022

Headteacher: Mrs L Nicholls

Dear Parents and Carers,

When spring came, even the false spring, there were no problems except where to be happiest.

Ernest Hemingway

The days are longer and the sun is brighter which can only mean one thing, spring is on the way! Hooray! In the next few weeks we have lots of exciting activities to look forward to.

Science Week - Monday 14th - Friday 18th march

British Science week is next week and we are very much looking forward to this in school. The theme this year is: Growth.

Classes across the school are going to buddy up so that the pupils have the opportunity to take measurements of hands and feet and compare with pupils in their buddy class. This will allow the children to see first hand growth, take measurements of each other's hands/feet, compare and read with their buddy class.

The pupils can design a poster and enter their design into the poster competition and at the end of the week on Red Nose day the pupils will participate in a great science and sport fun filled afternoon.

The Big Walk and Wheel - Monday 21st March - Friday 1st April

Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel is the new name for Sustrans Big Pedal.

The event has a new name but it still has the same aim. We want to encourage more families to travel to school actively, to help create healthier and happier communities.

Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel will run for 10 days from 21 March to 1 April 2022 and is open to all primary and secondary schools in the UK. We are taking part between 21 March and 1 April to be in with a chance of winning fabulous prizes every day.

On each day of the challenge schools compete to see who can record the greatest number of pupils walking, using a wheelchair, scooting or cycling to school. We want all children to join in the fun and to understand the health and wellbeing benefits of active travel.

What is Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel?

Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel inspires pupils to be amazing and take active journeys to school.

On each day of the challenge, schools compete to see who can get the highest percentage of their pupils walking, using a wheelchair, scooting or cycling to school. The school’s best five days will determine our final position.

How many active journeys will our pupils make?

Parents Evening
We are looking forward to welcoming all parents on Monday 28th  & Tuesday 29th March for parent consultation meetings. You will have the opportunity to meet your child’s class teacher and receive a mid year review of their progress towards end of year expectations. The teachers will also discuss with you what your child needs to work on to continue working towards these expectations.

Our year 6 prefects & digital leaders will also be on hand to show you to the classrooms and will be asking parents to complete our curriculum parent survey.
Please complete the attached google form by the end of the day on Wednesday 16th March. You will receive your appointment by Monday 21st March.

Easter
It is only a few weeks till we finish for the Easter break. I know that it feels like we have only returned from the Christmas break! However, to mark the occasion all pupils will be taking part in an easter egg hunt during the week beginning 28th March and we will be hosting Broadford’s very first Easter parade on Friday 1st April. We are inviting all pupils to take part in designing, making and wearing with pride an Easter bonnet/hat.
The bonnet/ hat could be made from card, paper, or use a baseball cap/sunhat/wooly hat as a base. Then allow your child to decide what they would like on their hat, it could be flowers, signs of new life such as Lambs, chicks and chocolate eggs. It can be anything linked to Easter.
We can’t wait to see all of the creations in school on Friday 1st April. Happy crafting!
