Weekly Newsletter - Friday 18th March

Headteacher: Mrs L Nicholls

Dear Parents and Carers,

The Big Walk and Wheel Starts on Monday!
Monday 21st March - Friday 1st April

Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel is the new name for Sustrans Big Pedal.
The event has a new name but it still has the same aim. We want to encourage more families to travel to school actively, to help create healthier and happier communities.
Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel will run for 10 days from 21 March to 1 April 2022 and is open to all primary and secondary schools in the UK. We are taking part between 21 March and 1 April to be in with a chance of winning fabulous prizes every day.
On each day of the challenge schools compete to see who can record the greatest number of pupils walking, using a wheelchair, scooting or cycling to school. We want all children to join in the fun and to understand the health and wellbeing benefits of active travel.
What is Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel?
Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel inspires pupils to be amazing and take active journeys to school.
On each day of the challenge, schools compete to see who can get the highest percentage of their pupils walking, using a wheelchair, scooting or cycling to school. The school’s best five days will determine our final position.
How many active journeys will our pupils make?

Empowering Parents Empowering Communities -EPEC
What is the EPEC Being a Parent Course?
The Empowering Parents Empowering Communities (EPEC) Being a Parent (BAP) is an 8-week course that aims to improve: child development, parenting, family resilience and family relationships. It creates a trusting group ethos where parents are encouraged and supported to explore: Positive behaviour management and discipline strategies. Managing parent and family stress. Understanding and managing children’s feelings. Parent listening, communication, play and interaction skills. Attachment and parent-child relationships. Parenting roles, expectations and culture.
Why is it different?
The Being a Parent Course is facilitated by accredited members who have completed the EPEC Parent Group Leader (PGL) training. Their experiences, backgrounds, skills and qualities make each session inviting and engaging.
Who is the course for?
The Being a Parent Course is for parents in Havering who have one or more children between the ages of 2 to 11 years. Pre-schools, nurseries, early year’s settings, children’s centres and schools in the London Borough of Havering recognise the course content.
If this sounds like something you would be interested in please come into the office and speak with Mrs Goff for further information.

Summer Term After School Club Applications

Due to the initial technical difficulties we have extended the deadline till Monday morning.

Easter
It is only a few weeks till we finish for the Easter break. I know that it feels like we have only returned from the Christmas break! However, to mark the occasion all pupils will be taking part in an easter egg hunt during the week beginning 28th March and we will be hosting Broadford’s very first Easter parade on Friday 1st April. We are inviting all pupils to take part in designing, making and wearing with pride an Easter bonnet/hat.
The bonnet/ hat could be made from card, paper, or use a baseball cap/sunhat/wooly hat as a base. Then allow your child to decide what they would like on their hat, it could be flowers, signs of new life such as Lambs, chicks and chocolate eggs. It can be anything linked to Easter.
We can’t wait to see all of the creations in school on Friday 1st April. Happy crafting!
