Weekly Newsletter - Friday 4th March

Headteacher: Mrs L Nicholls

Dear Parents and Carers,

World Book Day
Well done to everyone for the fabulous costumes on display yesterday, there were some very creative ideas, which I have no doubt took quite a while to make. Well done to all of the parents! The pupils have had a great week in school taking part in webinars with authors, reading alongside their peers in other classes and decorating their classroom doors. Look out on the blog for the photographs of best dressed and door decorations. The reading fun doesn’t end and today we have the great Broadford book swap. Lots of books being recycled and repurposed for the reading enjoyment of others!

Community Outreach
As you know it is part of our vision to work closely with our community. Over the past few years we haven’t been able to do this as much as we would like. However, I am delighted to inform you of two new community opportunities that we are about to launch.
Little Steps
We are delighted to announce that we are starting a Baby and Toddler group here at Broadford Primary School. Our group will be led by Eilish Jobber (one of our parents) and will start on Monday 14th March at 1.30pm to 3.00pm. Sessions will then be every Monday from 1.30pm to 3.00pm. Sessions will take place in the small side of our school hall and you will be able to enter via the adjacent doors next to the school office.
Our aims for our group are:
  • We want our baby and toddler group to feel part of the community.
  • We want to be able to offer babies and young children the opportunity to have fun and mix with other children in a safe environment where a familiar adult can share and extend their early learning experiences.
  • We want to be able to support children and parents/carers to transition into Nursery and Reception.
Do come and join our friendly group for a chat whilst your children enjoy a range activities that are designed to support a young child’s developing skills such as communication and motor skills.
This group is a community group welcoming all parents/carers with babies and young children and is free to attend.
Harold Hill Community Hub
We are strengthening our links with the community hub and school governor Mandy Anderson will be available on Wednesday 9th March at 8.30 am to provide information regarding the community hub. Mandy will be able to inform you about the community food shop, housing and support with gaining employment.
If you would like to find out more information about the Community hub, pop into school at 8.30 on Wednesday 9th March or visit the website

Uniform and Clothes Swap Shop
If you have had a little sort out and declutter over the half term break, we would love any donations of uniform - school sweatshirts and t-shirts etc and any donations of other clothing items that your children may have grown out of. We are particularly in need of older boys trousers and tights. Later this half term, we are going to host another swap shop. Dates to be confirmed.

Parents Consultations
At the end of the term we will be holding parent consultations when you are invited to come and meet your child’s class teacher to find out how they are progressing this year. This will be an opportunity to discuss the year group passport and how your child is making steps towards meeting end of year expectations.
These events will be held on Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th March
