Weekly Newsletter - Thursday 21st July, 2022

Headteacher: Mrs L Nicholls

Dear Parents and Carers,

End of the Academic Year
It is hard to believe that we are already at the end of the year and that this is the last newsletter I shall write this term. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for helping to make this year at Broadford such an enjoyable and rewarding one. Your children are an absolute delight to work with every day and I shall miss their company over the next six weeks. Enthusiastic, hardworking, conscientious, polite, appreciative, kind and welcoming: these are the words that come to mind most frequently when I think of how I would describe the Broadford pupils. I swell with pride when I talk to other parents, professionals, colleagues and children about the pupils we have at this school.

I would like to take the opportunity to say a huge and heartfelt thank you to all of our amazing teachers, teaching assistants and school support staff, who every day make a real and vital difference to the lives of our children. Their passion, commitment and drive to inspire Broadford’s children and young people is something I am extremely proud of and grateful for.
We remain committed to giving your children the very best and the end of this year simply means the start of the next stage of our continued improvement and development. Enjoy a lovely summer break and we look forward to seeing you in September!
Thank you for your continued support, enjoy the summer break and I very much look forward to welcoming you back in September.

Reading Challenge - Havering Libraries
The library outreach team visited school this week to lead an  assembly to promote the Summer Reading Challenge 2022 to pupils.
This year the challenge is called ‘Gadgeteers’ and explores inventions and innovations.  The characters in Gadgeteers work together to invent new items and solve problems in the areas of music, clothing, food production and energy and children learn about holograms, kinetic tiles, amplification and non-Newtonian fluid!
As children read their six library books and collect stickers they will also be given gifts to take home; bookmarks, games, pencils and kit bags.  Every child who reads six books will also receive a medal and certificate at the library.  It’s a fantastic free activity for children aged 4-11 to do during the summer and promotes the essential skill of reading for pleasure.
The official launch date for England and Havering libraries is Saturday 9 July 2022 but children can sign up at a library any time after this date.  The challenge finishes on 10th September.
They are really looking forward to seeing your children at your local  library this summer. Last year around 4,500 children took  part in Havering! Keep reading this summer holiday!

Summer Reading Challenge & Activities

Travelling abroad, visiting a landmark, picnicking in the park or staying home, whatever it may be, we would love to see you reading in unusual and interesting places! Send your photographs via the school’s Facebook or Instagram accounts. These photos will then be added to our ‘Get caught Reading Map’ and shared on the Broadford’s Library Instagram page - don’t forget to give us a follow! A winner and runner up will be chosen when we return to school in September. All pupils will receive a certificate. Winners will be rewarded with national Book Tokens.
Closing date for entries: 9/9/22

Keep on track with your reading progress and complete your reading tracker. Look out for the weekly reading question on the schools facebook page.
