Dear Parents and Carers,
Graduations
It was wonderful to invite parents into school this week for the first graduation ceremonies we have had in a few years. We are so pleased that so many of you were able to join us for this wonderful occasion. The pupils will be having their ‘official’ graduation photographs taken next week and you will receive a copy once they have been printed.
Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you again next week at the sports events.
Sports Mornings and Afternoons
Next week we are inviting parents to join us for sports events to cheer on the pupils and celebrate their sportsmanship. It has been a long time since our last sporting event so it is a good idea to go through the expectations for next week.
On their sports date, pupils must wear the school PE kit to school (navy blue shorts, plain white t-shirt with or without the Broadford logo, trainers or plimsolls and a sun hat). Sunscreen must be applied before school and children should bring a water bottle with them.
Please arrive on the allocated date and time and wait at the grey double doors to the left of the main school office.
The doors will be opened at 2.00pm and our year 6 prefects will be waiting to show you to the school field where the pupils will be ready to start.
If you arrive late and the sports event has already started, you may not be able to access the field, please arrive on time.
We would like to remind you that you are welcome to take photos of your own child. Please do not take videos or photographs of the whole class or groups of children and share them on social media. Not every parent gives permission for their children’s photographs to be shared on the internet. Class teachers will be taking photographs and will share these on the schools social media platforms for pupils who we have parental permission to do so.
Please encourage and cheer all pupils during the event.
If the sports afternoon finishes before 2.50 pm and you would like to take your child home early please follow this procedure.
Let your child know that you will collect them early.
Pupils will go back to their classrooms with their teacher to collect their belongings.
We ask that parents make their way to the main school office via the grey double doors to meet the children.
Please tell the member of staff at the office the names and classes of any other siblings that you would like to collect.
If the sports event finishes after 2.50 pm the children will go back to their classrooms and parents can collect them at the usual time. Nursery am pupils will be dismissed straight after the event but siblings will have to stay in school for the rest of the day.
We look forward to welcoming as many of you next week which I have no doubt will be a wonderful event!
After School Childcare
If parents require after school child care we currently have pupils who are collected daily from Broadford by childminders and Bright Futures, if you require any information regarding this please speak to a member of staff at the main school office, who will be able to provide you with contact details. This is in addition to our own after school clubs that staff provide for extra curricular activities.
From September, parents will also have the choice of an after school club that will be held in the school hall and provided by Essex After School Clubs. If you are interested in further information regarding this, Essex After School Clubs will be positioned outside of the school office on Thursday 7th July to meet with parents and answer any questions that you may have.
Reading Challenge
The library outreach team visited school this week to lead an assembly to promote the Summer Reading Challenge 2022 to pupils.
This year the challenge is called ‘Gadgeteers’ and explores inventions and innovations. The characters in Gadgeteers work together to invent new items and solve problems in the areas of music, clothing, food production and energy and children learn about holograms, kinetic tiles, amplification and non-Newtonian fluid!
As children read their six library books and collect stickers they will also be given gifts to take home; bookmarks, games, pencils and kit bags. Every child who reads six books will also receive a medal and certificate at the library. It’s a fantastic free activity for children aged 4-11 to do during the summer and promotes the essential skill of reading for pleasure.
The official launch date for England and Havering libraries is Saturday 9 July 2022 but children can sign up at a library any time after this date. The challenge finishes on 10th September.
They are really looking forward to seeing your children at your local library this summer. Last year around 4,500 children took part in Havering! Keep reading this summer holiday!

Summer Holiday Meal Scheme 2022
With funding from the Household Support Fund, the Council will continue the School Holiday Meal Scheme to support eligible families over the summer school break. The scheme allows eligible families to receive £90 (£15 per week) per child, to purchase food over the 6 week holiday period to replace the meals a child would have received during a school day.
The summer application window will open for a short period from 9 am Wednesday 29 June, closing on Wednesday 6 July at 5 pm.
Families who have previously received payment via the scheme do not need to reapply and will automatically receive the funds into their nominated bank.
