Dear Parents and Carers,
Sports Afternoon
A big thank you to all parents and carers who attended our sports afternoons this week. Everyone enjoyed themselves and there was a wonderful sense of sportsmanships from all of the participants. Thank you also to the staff for organising and preparing the pupils for the event. I am sure you will agree with me that it was wonderful to be back together for these events after a few years of not being able to. It is nice to get back to normal.
Go Bonkers Day!
On Thursday 14th July it is the Go Bonkers day at Broadford. This is when the school field is filled with inflatables for a day of fun to celebrate the end of the school year. All year groups will have dedicated time on the inflatables and pupils who have achieved 96%+ attendance will have some extra jumping time.
On this day pupils must come to school wearing their school PE kits - (navy blue shorts, plain white t-shirt with or without the Broadford logo, trainers or plimsolls and a sun hat) all pupils must wear socks or they will not be able to take part. Sunscreen must be applied before school and children should bring a water bottle with them.
This is one of the favourite days on the school calendar for pupils and staff alike. Look out for photographs from the day on our school blog and social media platforms.
Reading Challenge
The library outreach team visited school this week to lead an assembly to promote the Summer Reading Challenge 2022 to pupils.
This year the challenge is called ‘Gadgeteers’ and explores inventions and innovations. The characters in Gadgeteers work together to invent new items and solve problems in the areas of music, clothing, food production and energy and children learn about holograms, kinetic tiles, amplification and non-Newtonian fluid!
As children read their six library books and collect stickers they will also be given gifts to take home; bookmarks, games, pencils and kit bags. Every child who reads six books will also receive a medal and certificate at the library. It’s a fantastic free activity for children aged 4-11 to do during the summer and promotes the essential skill of reading for pleasure.
The official launch date for England and Havering libraries is Saturday 9 July 2022 but children can sign up at a library any time after this date. The challenge finishes on 10th September.
They are really looking forward to seeing your children at your local library this summer. Last year around 4,500 children took part in Havering! Keep reading this summer holiday!
