Part 1 Broadford News
I hope that you all had a wonderful break and didn’t indulge in too much chocolate. It has been fantastic to welcome all the pupils back to school this week for what promises to be a very busy term. Thank you to all parents who attended the graduation assemblies at the end of last term. It was a brilliant opportunity to share the children’s learning with you all and it was great that so many of you were able to attend.
Our Easter Hat parade was a fabulous way to end the term and we were really impressed with all of your original and creative ideas. This event raised a wonderful £152 towards our fundraising total this year. Thank you!
New Look Newsletter
We have adjusted the format of the newsletter a little bit for this term. Part 1 will include details about up and coming events etc.
Part 2 is information, dates and lunches etc.
Part 3 has been designed to provide parents with more of an insight to our pupil jobs and how these are embedded throughout the school day for pupils.
I hope you find this new format useful.

Eid Day
The holy month of Ramadan is slowly coming to an end and Muslims all around the world will be celebrating Eid this week (depending on the sighting of the moon). At Broadford Primary School, we will be recognising Eid in school on Monday 24th April, 2023. On this day, we are asking children to:
- Come to school wearing colourful clothes (sparkly, full of sequins, beautiful patterns).
- Children can bring 50p or £1 per family to go towards our annual fundraising total. .
This is a great opportunity to make children aware of this exciting Muslim festival and encourage them to recognise the occasion in school. This will definitely improve their understanding of different cultures, they will be able to celebrate diversity and even learn something new.
If you celebrate Eid at home, it would be wonderful for your child to share their knowledge of this celebration with their peers and the teachers will ensure that they have the opportunity to do so.
We are very excited to see all the fun activities that are going to take place and we cannot wait to share this with you.
We cannot wait for all the fun that is in store for us on Monday!
Road Safety Competition
We were extremely fortunate to have a road safety assembly this week which was presented by one of our parents Emily Caitlin. Emily talked to the children about the dangers of crossing the road in front of or behind buses and the important message to stop, look, listen and think before crossing any road. Some of your children may be reminding you to not stop or park on the zig zags as they also covered this during the assembly.
We are inviting all pupils to enter a competition to design a road safety poster which could be transferred into a banner for our school gates to educate us all on the importance of safety road travel within our local community.
All entries to be received in school by Friday 5th May.

New Staff
This week we have welcomed Mr Flowers in year 6 replacing Mrs Lewis in Oak class. Welcome to Mr Flowers who has settled in and very much enjoyed his first week at Broadford.
Industrial Action
As you are aware there are further Teacher strikes planned on Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May. Staff do not need to decide if they are taking part until the day and we are not allowed to insist that staff inform us if they are participating, nor even inform us of which union they are part of. At this stage I am unable to confirm whether there will be a partial or full closure to pupils on either or both days and would suggest that childcare arrangements be made in advance. I will confirm the partial or full closure by Monday 24th April. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
Coronation Celebrations!
As we are all aware, next month is the coronation of King Charles II. We will, of course, be having some celebrations in school.
Crowns, cakes and parties! Friday 5th May
On Friday 5th May we will have our Coronation celebrations in school. All pupils are invited to make a Crown or wear a tiara for the day. The pupils will engage themselves in coronation activities and an afternoon tea party where there will of course be plenty of cake!
Part of the King’s celebrations have a volunteering theme with one of the days over the weekend being dedicated to “The Big Help Out”.
The Big Help Out will highlight the positive impact volunteering has on communities across the nation. In tribute to His Majesty The King's public service, The Big Help Out will encourage people to try volunteering for themselves and join the work being undertaken to support their local areas. The aim of The Big Help Out is to use volunteering to bring communities together and create a lasting volunteering legacy from the Coronation Weekend.
Every year group at Broadford is going to complete a volunteering project over the next half term.
There may be visits to the care home, litter picking within the local community or planting some plants to enhance our environment. If you have any ideas for volunteering projects you would like to see our pupils involved in or would like to get involved yourself, please comment on this post.
Watch out to see what our amazing pupils get up to over the next few weeks to make our fabulous local community a better place for us all.
