Strike Action: School Closed 10th July

Dear Parent/Carer,

RE: One-Day National Strike Action on Thursday 10th July 2014
SCHOOL CLOSED

As you are probably aware, the GMB, UNITE and UNISON trade unions have called for national strike action on Thursday 10th July 2014. This action is in response to their rejection of the 1% pay offer for all staff employed within Local Government employed under National Joint Council (NJC) terms and conditions (which includes support staff in schools).

The NUT has also called for their members to take strike action on this same day. This action is part of their national campaign of discontinuous strike action, which is in response to the government’s proposed changes to the Teachers’ Pension Scheme, teachers’ pay and conditions, workload pressures and loss of jobs.

The majority of our staff are in these unions and the expected numbers of staff who will take action indicates that there will be insufficient staff to ensure the safety of pupils or the smooth running of the school.

Unfortunately it has been decided that the school will be closed to pupils on Thursday10th July. I know that you may feel notice could have been given earlier, but we have done everything we can to minimize disruption and have tried to keep the school open. However the impact of the strike is such, that it would not be possible to do so safely.

Thank you for your understanding.

Yours faithfully

M Drakes
