OPAL - Outdoor Play and Learning
Playing outdoors in rich play environments is one of the best ways for children to develop social skills, build resilience, make more friends, be more creative and care more about the planet. Right now, this is more important than ever.
The children are all extremely excited about our playground project and have been fully involved in the resources they want outside.
The children are all extremely excited about our playground project and have been fully involved in the resources they want outside.
At our last fundraising event, we raised a fantastic £1,600 to enrich playtimes. Since raising this money, we have purchased:
- 2 new Mud Kitchens
- 12 more Den Building Set
- Outdoor coats hooks for the KS2 to hang wellies and waterproofs
- 3 new Wheeled trolleys for small world resources
- Playground chalks and bubbles
This money will also be used to replenish resources throughout the Spring term.
All equipment is risked assessed before being put outdoors and the children are introduced to new resources in assembly time where rules are established for fun but safe play.
As mentioned in the OPAL letter sent out at the launch of the programme, we will be continuing collecting resources for children to play with as we need an endless supply. So, do think of us if you are having a clear out during the half term. The items we are looking for will enable us to enjoy a wider range of play experiences during playtime are(see below for some examples):
Bread crates
Cable drums
Metal/plastic pots and pans
