Weekly Newsletter - Friday 4th February, 2022

Headteacher: Mrs L Nicholls

Dear Parents and Carers,

At last January is over and February is here. By the end of this month the sun will start to rise at 6.48 am and will not start to set until 6.41 pm. Spring, warmer and longer days are on the way!

Covid- 19 Guidelines
We do still have positive cases reported within our community. Please remain vigilant and do not send your child to school if they are displaying symptoms of Covid-19. We continue to encourage pupils to practice regular and robust hand washing throughout the day and are keeping areas ventilated.
From Monday 17th January the government have changed the rules regarding self isolation. On day 5 and onwards if you or your child have received two negative lateral flow test results 24 hours apart and are no longer displaying symptoms then you can break your isolation periods.
If your child cannot attend school because they are unwell or self-isolating please inform us as soon as you can. You can call the school office on 01708 342880 or email the school office via office@broadford.havering.sch.uk.

Thank you for your constant support during this time.

Half Term: Monday 15th - Friday 19th February

The children’s last day this half term will be Friday 11th February and the second half of the Spring term resumes on Monday 21st  February. The first day back after half term (Monday 21st February) is an INSET day for staff and there will not be any school that day for pupils. We look forward to children returning to school on Tuesday 22nd February, the doors will open for breakfast club at 7.45 am and the gates will open for all other pupils at 8.30 am.

Children’s Mental Health Week: Monday 7th - Friday 11th February
Next week is mental health week and this year's theme is Growing Together. We will be encouraging children (and adults) to consider how they have grown, and how they can help others to grow. If you would like to follow up on this at home please go to https://www.childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk/ for more information.

On Friday 11th all children are invited to take part in 'wear your scarf to school day' where they come into school wearing their favourite scarf to show support for children's mental health. The reasons for wearing scarves are;
Safety - scarves are warm and comforting, helping to keep someone snug and safe in very cold weather.
Caring - scarves can be given as gifts from someone special and they make us feel cared for. Wearing a scarf as part of a religious faith can also help someone to feel cared for.
Achievement - sometimes a scarf may indicate that we are part of a club, perhaps a sports team. These are waved when a club achieves (e.g. when a football team scores a goal!) They also show when someone belongs to something.
Resilience - our favourite football team’s scarf can also help someone to remember that they can still support a team even if it’s not doing very well; our team’s scarf can show resilience when bouncing back from defeat or disapointment.
Friendship - maybe some scarves were a gift from a friend and this makes them extra special.
We are looking forward to this special event in school.

Honk
Would you like to start the February half term break with a HONK? Havering Music Makers have a very special offer for you. Why not kick off half-term week by taking advantage of the amazing KIDS FOR A QUID offer. Buy one adult ticket and bring two children for just £1 each! Just quote the discount code KIDS.  The afternoon performance starts at 2.30pm on Saturday 12th February.

Pupils will LOVE this colourful, heartwarmingly cute and hilarious musical, retelling the story of the Ugly Duckling, where it's not what you look like on the outside that matters but what's on the inside.

Google Classroom
If your children are not in school because they are unwell there is no expectation that they should be completing work at home on google classroom. If they are unwell they should be resting and recuperating in order to return to school. If pupils cannot attend school due to isolation and they are feeling well enough school work will be provided via google classroom.

Havering Catering Services

Week beginning 7th February   is week 1  on the Havering catering services menu. All meals are served with unlimited salad and vegetables and cost £2.30.

If you are experiencing difficulties please contact Mrs West in the school office who will be able to provide you with support and  assistance.
