Welcome back! I have no doubt that this half term will pass by as quickly as the last. There are lots of exciting events to look forward to. We will be launching our new website, the University of Broadford is opening its doors again and we will be hosting our very own Easter parade before we break up for the Easter holidays!
Living with Covid
I am sure that you would have seen the Prime Minister’s announcement this week regarding the changes to the self-isolation guidelines. It is wonderful that after two long years, we are edging towards life without Covid restrictions, although as a community we must be mindful that this elicits different responses in those around us.
The DfE wrote to schools sharing information which I am sharing with you. The bold text comes directly from the DfE email.
Changes to self-isolation and daily testing of close contacts
From Thursday 24 February, the Government will remove the legal requirement to self-isolate following a positive test. Adults and children who test positive will continue to be advised to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for at least 5 full days, and then continue to follow the guidance until they have received 2 negative test results on consecutive days. In addition, the Government will:
No longer ask fully vaccinated close contacts and those aged under 18 to test daily for 7 days, and remove the legal requirement for close contacts who are not fully vaccinated to self-isolate.
Staff, children and young people should attend their education settings as usual. This includes staff who have been in close contact within their household, unless they are able to work from home.
You will see that the advice is for people who have Covid to remain at home for at least 5 full days and then follow the guidance until they have received two negative lateral flows.
Although these are now guidelines rather than legal requirements, we hope that parents will choose to adhere to these guidelines. This will help to ensure that our pupils and staff remain covd-free. Your support will hopefully allow pupils to continue learning in school and allow staff to continue to provide high quality education.

World Book Day
World Book Day is on Thursday 3rd March 2022 this year and it is the 25th year of World Book Day celebrations.
Due to COVID, Broadford hasn't been able to celebrate fully for 2 years so this year we are having a whole week of celebrating! We are going BIG! We kicked off our celebrations this week with the author Natalie Newman in school reading her newly published book ‘Lark the Shark’ to Reception, year 1 and 2 pupils.
World Book Day Dress Up - Thursday 3rd March
Children are invited to dress as a book character. Best dressed in each class will win a prize!
This year, we are looking to help our planet (and save a little money) by reusing and recycling unwanted fancy dress items. If you have items at home that you no longer have a use for we would gratefully accept them! We kindly ask that all donations are made by Friday 25th February 2022.
Broadford's Big Book Swap - Friday 4th March
If you have books at home that you don't use anymore this is your chance for your child to bring them into school in exchange for a book token. This event will happen in the afternoon of Friday 4th March in pupil's classes. Please send donation into school by Monday 28th February.
Parents Consultations
At the end of the term we will be holding parent consultations when you are invited to come and meet your child’s class teacher to find out how they are progressing this year. This will be an opportunity to discuss the year group passport and how your child is making steps towards meeting end of year expectations.
These events will be held on Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th April.
Swap Shop
If you have had a little sort out and declutter over the half term break, we would love any donations of uniform - school sweatshirts and t-shirts etc and any donations of other clothing items that your children may have grown out of. This half term, we are going to host another swap shop. Dates to be confirmed.
Havering Catering Services
Week beginning 28th February is week 3 on the Havering catering services menu. All meals are served with unlimited salad and vegetables and cost £2.30.
Please be reminded that your child’s sQuid account should be topped up at all times. We cannot provide dinners for pupils whose account exceeds a debt of £10. If you are experiencing difficulties please contact Mrs West in the school office who will be able to provide you with support and assistance.
