100% Bikeability Pass Rate

Congratulations to the eleven pupils who managed to complete their Level 2 Bikeability course this week. Split over two days, the cycling exam contains many elements which help to ensure that our pupils are safer on the roads when riding their bikes.

What does Level 2 contain?

Level 2 Bikeability is the first on road course! Level 2 gives you experience of real traffic conditions so you are able to make journeys to school or the shops .Taught in a group of up to 12 pupils, the program is offered to Year 5&6 pupils. By the end of their two day stint - which was made up of four sessions - the children were able to:
  • Start and finish an "on road" journey
  • Adopt a safe position on the road,
  • Pass side turnings and parked vehicles safely,
  • Make U turns safely,
  • Negotiate small roundabouts,
  • Decide whether a cycle lane will help with your journey,
  • Understand the Highway Code
"Until I took the course, I hadn't thought about all the dangers on the road!" Toheeb - Year 5

"Although I used to be worried about taking my bike off the pavement, working with Phil has made me much more confident" James - Year 5

Perhaps the most pleasing thing from the two days, was the acknowledgement we had from the instructors of how much the school has improved in the last 3 years. The Bikeability instructor (Phil Mylrea) said on his feedback form that… “the school has transformed itself over the last 3 years and is now unrecognizable from the school it used to be. Broadford Primary is now one of the best schools that Cycle Training East work with.”

What a great endorsement of our school and your children!

After a tiring cycle up Faringdon Avenue, the pupils just have enough energy left for a photograph!
