Fact Hunters: Squids, spiders & babies!


This week we have had a tremendous number of interesting facts being shared by the children. Congratulations to the following children who have amazed us with their ability to hunt out interesting snippets of information:

Did you know that the Earth doesn’t rotate at a constant speed? The rotation is affected by the Moon and other factors.

Jackie Ramalingham
Huntsman Spiders are found living under loose bark on trees, in crevices on rock walls and in logs, under rocks and slabs of bark on the ground, and on foliage. Dozens of the social huntsman species, Delena cancerides, can be seen sitting together under bark on dead trees and stumps.

Do you know how the Vampire squid got its name? The black color is distinct enough in itself. The fact that the long arms flow like a black cape remind many people of a vampire wearing one.

Did you know that Edward The Blue Engine was the first train to be featured by Rev Awdry... not Thomas The Tank Engine!

The Asilidae are the robber fly family, also called assassin flies. They are powerfully built, bristly flies with a short, stout proboscis enclosing the sharp, sucking hypopharynx. The name "robber flies" reflects their notoriously aggressive predatory habits.

Did you know that Nyanja (chinyanja), is a Bantu language spoken by over 15 million people in southern Africa. The word Bwanji means ‘hello’
