Nutrition Advice Websites

We had a very interesting presentation from the NHS this morning on nutrition and how best to provide a healthy diet at home. There were a number of useful websites given out where parents could go for more information:

•Children’s Food Trust (2013) Eat Well Do Better: Packed lunches. Online. Available from: http://www.childrensfoodtrust.org.uk/parents/schoolfood/packedlunches

•Infant Toddler Forum (2013) Online. Available from: www.infantandtoddlerforum.org

•Cooke, L. (no date) Cbeebies: Portion sizes for kids. Online. Available from: http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/grownups/article/portion-sizes-for-kids

•Change for life (2013) Eat Well: Lunch boxes. Online. Available from: http://www.nhs.uk/Change4Life/Pages/healthy-lunchbox-picnic.aspx

  1. Children need a balanced diet with food from all 3 food groups—vegetables and fruit, whole grain products, and protein foods. Children need 3 meals a day and 1 to 3 snacks (morning, afternoon and possibly before bed). Healthy snacks are just as important as the food you serve at meals.
